I had that on the first pass. It's basic computer stuff, known as LEET Speak. It reaches back to the early days of the internet if not prior to that into the world of ASCII if memory serves me *(It does not much anymore... HA...)

You should see the inspectors in Baltimore Seagirt sit around over a hour on lunch while hundreds of trucks pile up waiting.

Not all UPS drivers are union. Some are contractors (UPS has started running contractors like Fed Ex does), and some may work in "right to work" states (like Kansas) and dont have to join the union.

But UPS line haul drivers arent paid by the hour while they are rolling.

To clarify many drivers on ttr want to see all hos worked paid hourly, if a driver makes a run that he can compete in 8 hours but takes 12 to complete it, he's going to use the excuse of slow traffic, or bad weather, or whatever he can use to justify his the reason why it took him so long to complete that run, effectively stealing, deceptively

Exactly why most companies deal with contractors so they don't deal with Unions.
And as far as getting paid off of percentage. I've seen that also. That goes great until the mill shuts down for repairs and the drivers are sitting there, making nothing.
And you can bet when your income is based purely off of percentage, those company drivers will drive those trucks like "rented mules". And so the cost to the company for repairs, goes up.
And if their O/O working off percentage. Well, then, they are fools. IMHO

Most mills get shutdown on a schedule, those companies should be preparing for that schedule shutdown, so they can fibs other freight to haul too subsidize their typical freight, or charge the company for their trucks sitting waiting for the shutdown. That's assuming their trucks are contracted to haul only that freight and no one else's.

If it's an unscheduled shutdown, then I do think the drivers should be compensated a nominal rate for their waiting

Unscheduled shutdowns happen all the time. And you know as well as I do. In the event of a scheduled shutdown, you as the driver would be the last to be made aware of it. That's Perfect World Thinkin There!!
As far as compensation, I agree, we should be compensated, as the UNIONS would be, but, too often times we are not.
