Sorry to tell you all, but that's the way OTR trucking is, always has been. Ask any old hand, they will tell you. It's a lifestyle, not a "job".

If you don't like it... GTFO. Go get a "job". Because that's what you really want. Otherwise, stop complaining about the deal you agreed to with whatever company you agreed to go drive for.

#1don, Oxbow and Lepton1 Thank this.

I actually demanded money (and got it) for something like this once.
You have to respect yourself and your time because no one else will unless it costs them.

It is a job, if it wasn't a job, you wouldn't be compensated for the work you put in

If you talking to me I don't care what " old hands" say. They can do what they want too, none of my business. It is not my life style.I am here to make money. And why would I GTFO? I never ever agreed to sit for free and I don't care whether or not broker pays detention or layover.
Actually I am sitting whole day today till 9.30 PM and I get $150 for that because I will only do 40 miles today. You sit for free if that's what you like.

Then go buy a truck, and a trailer. Pay for your authority, insurance, insurance, and more insurance. Then go pay for your plates, fuel, access to load boards, attorney and CPA.

Then hire a driver, don't forget to pay him a sign on bonus, pay his way to your location, and give him an advance on his first paycheck.

After you do all that, come back here and tell us all how its done.

Oxbow, Ruthless and Lepton1 Thank this.

If the company you drive for agreed to that arrangement, then yes you should get paid for it. If not, don't complain about it.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

There's a reason I don't deal with union shops. And if you think no union outfit doesn't run JIT freight, you're sorely mistaken.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

So, then why do you want to be paid when you're not working.

You ever book a load then show up and have the load be cancelled? I'm sure you charged a fee for truck ordered not used.
