Agreed. My company charges for TONU and I make a percentage of that. Especially with the ELD mandate shippers need to have their feet held to the fire. I show up on time and the load cancels? I have already started my clock and my ability to generate revenue TTT (To The Truck) today is severely limited.

No. He is a contractor. But does that matter in the scope of the OP? Really?

It doesn't. Whether a new hire wants to be on W-2 or 1099 is COMPLETELY beside the point of the OP. The driver screwed up.

    I couldn't agree more.

We've got the same mentality in a lot of our industry as these boneheads that think they should get $15 an hr for flipping fish eye burgers or pressing button with a picture of fries on it.

It's really sad, they have no idea how good they have it.

And yes, the fact that you're hired to make your employer a profit is a very difficult concept to grasp. At least it is when you're raised and educated to believe that the only reason a company exists is to provide you with income, benefits, lollipops and butterflies.

Oxbow, nightgunner and Lepton1 Thank this.

    No, it's not.

Someone saying they are available to perform work and someone actually performing work, are two completely different things.

Sitting like that tires me more than driving as I can't plan anything.

I figured at this point we're all just ranting, since there wasn't even a question asked in the first place. The driver did screw up and deserves their contract being terminated. It's just weird seeing words related to employment applied to a 1099 driver.

While I agree that the OP didn't ask a question in his initial post, he did later make the statement about paying his drivers either with a 1099 or a W2, whichever they wanted.
This was the part I was referring to.

I agree with you, i have been on this website almost 11 yrs and its not the same anymore. Alot of trolls and foolishness going on now, unlike back when i first started this site. Drivers genuinely want to help drivers and give great advice.

Oxbow, longbedGTs and Ruthless Thank this.
