To clear some things up I was not on call. I will never work a job where im on call. I have 2 set runs a week that leave at the same time everytime. No where in the paperwork I signed did it say I have to pick up the phone on my FREE TIME.
This is a training company, come with your permit and sign a 2yr contract to get your cdl. Quit within 2 yrs and you owe them 6k. I came with my cdl so no worries there. Only people that make real money there are the suck up trainers. They will fire you for so many stupid reasons.
I literally had no beef with anybody there, always came in on time and only called off once due to family emergency. Me and dispatch hardly spoke because I came in and did my job right. All of my customers loved me.
I'm either going to Maines Food service, Jb hunt dcs out of Pittston pa or possibly McLane food service out of Jessup pa. May have a few other options through my dads network when he was o/o. I wont be out work long I know that, clean mvr, never ticketed for anything during road side inspection and have just shy of a yr exp

It was my day off, sorry but its my day. I'll call you back in the morning or how about I call you on your day off bossman. I worked my but off for this company. to those who have never done food service I unloaded a 48 with a 2 wheeler. Every case finger printed. All 46k coming off by hand over a 36 hr run. do my 14 take my 10 finish rest of stops and hope I make it home before I run out of hrs. I hated this job but I busted my butt
Most food service places are hourly pay not us. If I don't take a helper its 22c a case and 22c a mile. I averaged 1300mi a week and 2000-2200 cases a week. if I wanted to take a helper I got raped 13c a case and 19c a mile and I took a helper on one of my trips every week so you do the math I wasn't making muchLast edited: Nov 24, 2015

where ever you go next,
don't forget to answer your phone !!!truckon Thanks this. -
Hahha yeah I think I'll be doing that from now on

Sucks you got fired, but I'm not buying that the only reason was you not answering the phone. So what it was your day off. Maybe something came up. Maybe there was a emergency. Maybe you screwed up. Who knows. Can't judge based off of one side of a story. It's simple to answer the phone, have a brief conversation then go about your day.

Yeah but I didn't willingly ignore the phone I didn't know they called me until hrs later and figured they would let me know what was up when I came in the next day. they didn't leave a msg so it wasn't that important

I'm a little confused here about you having a learners permit and you're ok. You will have to pay them back for the remainder of the cost for the school. No private industry can take your CDL away from you. The DMV reserves the right to do that. I could be wrong here but I don't think so. There would be no continuity here and companies then would be judged on how they handle the CDL. The states control that as directed by the Federal Government.
What they will do (and again I'm going by what I've read and heard) they will recoup their money and if they can not get it they will smear your name and send you to a collection agency. You're going to pay for that school and what the shame really is you'll received some really crappy training.
I hope others that are new to this industry see how the big megas really operate. Do you think they are upset about firing you? No way, they just made a ton of money in getting another new driver with low pay that they can beat around for awhile. When they see you're starting to wise up then they watch and can you for really no reason. It would be great if you were out of hours because the FMCSA has direct regulations protecting you a driver from killing yourself.Last edited by a moderator: Nov 25, 2015

Fired for not answering the phone one time? As others have stated, methinks there's more to the story than that.
IMHO if you decide to be a professional driver you answer the phone, no matter what. If you can't answer the phone you return the call ASAP. We have a hard job, but being in dispatch or load planning isn't any piece of cake either. Make yourself available to COMMUNICATE so the TEAM can best serve the customers.
In my current job we "go on the board", then get a call when we are first on the board when the next available load comes up. We MUST arrive to the shipper within one hour from the time of that call, if the shipper is within a 30 mile radius of the terminal. That's our level of service. Doesn't matter to me if it's 2:00 pm or 2:00 am, I answer the phone at all hours.truckon Thanks this. -
