Got called into the office. The conversation starts so we know you got another job offer and we know you’ve been complaining about some of the changes around here. I cut him off, in the last safety meeting there were quite a few complaining much more than I did and you were there as I recall. Yeah and now a lot of them have quit or threatening to quit and we understand you’ve been recruiting them to go with you to your new job are you getting a referral bonus? I say I’m not recruiting anyone for anything and I haven’t even given notice yet, sure I got job offers you know that because they gotta verify employment but that’s only because you’re going crazy with these driver facing cameras being installed and If that’s causing drivers to flee I fail to see how that’s my fault. Well we think you’re recruiting our drivers to go with you so we’re gonna need your keys and fuel card. So I’m fired really ? Yeah really.
I take my keys and credit card and act like I’m gonna hand them to him and then drop them on the floor. Covid you know I tell him as he looks shocked at me, gotta be contactless. I walk out and they start shouting I gotta wait for security to escort me off the grounds, I just kept walking. Got in my pick up truck and drive away. Our security guard is this 60 year old overweight woman who smokes 3 packs a day and is usually hard to find so I wasn’t waiting for such silliness.
It’s true I got a job offer and have agreed to start new job January 3rd so this isn’t a big loss. Think this is their way of feeling like they won. There are indeed other drivers going to my new company but I didn’t really recruit anyone so much as a few guys asked me about it and they ended up applying too.
Guess I’ll file unemployment. Which I’ve never done. Part of me is mad, but another part of me is looking forward to not working for the holidays and starting my new cameraless job in the new year.
Fired, because of rumors. I have been applying for other jobs.

I think that if you're getting hired on with a new company in January, filing for unemployment is pointless.
So do tell, what company is this?Rubber duck kw, Pamela1990, bentstrider83 and 3 others Thank this. -

your now former employer can just say you threw the keys and credit card at him, and walked off
most times, it takes 2 weeks for any claim to be valid, take with that the shortage of workers at the unemployment office, it can be 3, maybe 4 weeks before you even get a denial or approval.
next time you get a new job, tell the new employer that you really do not want your current employer to know that you are looking for new employment.
from what i was told, from there, they may only call saying that they are from a credit card company, just checking employment times.
also, never let it be known your displeasure working at a place, to ANYONE, as anyone will gladly stab you in the back, and rat you out.
this current situation can go badly for you, so be prepared for repercussions for the unemployment office. and god help you, if the new employer has a problem in the next week let alone into January, and calls you and says now they do not need you.....jethro712, bbq247365, Mattflat362 and 7 others Thank this. -

They say the best revenge is living well. Hopefully the new job is better and you never have to think about the past company again. I typically tell any company do not contact my current employer until everything else is completed. But I've heard many companies contact your current employer regardless. It's done. I would spedn only a few minutes thingking if there was a better way for all of this to happen. If there was, remember to do that. If there isn't anything to be learn drop it forever. I'm a worrier so I tend to worry about all 890 ways something can go wrong, how each step has 809 ways to be done, and the 809 things I should do better, before I decide to do nothing and stay put. Each technique has risks and rewards. You do you.
