Well if the ratio is too high it will effect your transmit/receive and at a 3+ will "poof" the finals

But I have heard it several times that steel whip will almost always have better receive/ trans.

Steel whips like a monkeymade or 10k predator will outperform firesticks, wilson’s,etc.I use a antenna built by 727 out of nj.Just depends on what you want out of a radio.Me It’s a hobby so I like to have the best.

Likewise. So you have a custom antenna?

I'm always interested in tests that compare one resonant antenna against another under the same conditions at the same time on the same vehicle using the same target station. From the tests I've seen, it seems to me they show that on mobile rigs, it's the length of the antenna sticking up in the air that counts. I.E., the longer the antenna, the better it performs.

    Slowmover1 Thanks this.

Mounting position makes a huge diff as well..
Putting a 10k on a flat top 18 classic vs same ant on a cascadia vs a volvo vs a areo pete..They will all have different results based on what the trk offers as ground plain, antenna placement ext...So a blanket statement doesnt apply here..Putting a whip metal/fibreglass ant on all these trks will work differently as well....
Putting a 10k/monkey made on a low mount point will not do as well as a top load fibreglass will...
Seeing a 102 doesnt have a load coil but uses entire length as its load coil and a 7ft ant with its coil at the top they should be fairly close..Never tried nor compared so i cant say for sure..
