First audition

    So, why pay to the shop? Do it your self. I have been working as car mechanic for years, but never on big trucks. I am not qualified according to the FMCSA, but I don't trust the high school kid, wearing TA uniform to do the inspection. I personally grease my truck and check every detail underneath. I work on my truck and replace many parts myself.

    I pay for the 2nd set of eyes to hopefully catch things I may have missed (though so far I've done better inspections than them).

    If you worked for years as an automotive mechanic, you can argue you are qualified. Include that work experience in your driver qualification file, spend ~8 hours reviewing the green book, and just print out a Wordperfect certificate saying you completed 8 hours of commercial training.

    You think the big companies do more than that? I can guarantee you could walk in off the street with your resume, be hired to work as a mechanic at a trucking terminal, watch a couple videos, and wind up doing inspections your 1st day on the job...
