    USS New Jersey (BB-62), E-6.
    I hauled acid, tanker/hazmat, 48 states & Canada.
Here's the usual pay structure, best to worst:

    Tanker/Hazmat
    Reefer (refrigerated)
    Flatbed
    Dry Van

Occassionally, Reefer & Flatbed flip-flop, but reefer usually is best.
Once you obtain a CDL from a good school, 100's of companies will hire you, even if they don't advertise they hire recent grads. Apply to all companies that interest you.

3 companies that have veterans programs(there are more also):

    Schneider(van/tanker/flatbed/almost everything)
    Crete Carrier(flatbed/reefer/van)
    Quality Carriers(tanker)

Stay away from the mega-carriers or top 5 if you want to succeed!

Out of those you listed I would run!
    :biggrin_2559:
Central Refrigerated is a really good company and also has a school. They are large enough to keep you busy yet small enough to still treat you like a human being. The main reason I would avoid the mega-carriers is your dispatcher. Your dispatcher is going to be your key to success and at those really big companies the dispatchers over see hundreds of drivers. This makes you a number! You will be given a load according to where you are and what you have for hours. They could care less if you make any money they just want to make sure things go smoothly. Very rarely will you get a run with a lot miles because these big companies utilize their teams to do them.

I can't stress enough how much better a smaller company is. The dispatchers may have 5-10 drivers of which you can build a personal relationship with and scratch each others backs. If you have a problem they will be more apt to help you solve it. You will work together, hand in hand to make money. You will communicate where the freight is and where you need to be or set up to get it.

Crete also is a good company. They are on the large side though. Make sure to talk to them first though if you are considering them because they only hire students from a few certain schools. Chinatown made a good point about running reefer too. Not only do you get paid more to haul reefer but your options for loads is twice as good as a dry van because you can haul anything dry or refrigerated.

If you let us know where you live we can maybe help you out a little better.
