Do you make any exceptions for a person that got over say heart attack, cancer, divorce, law suit?
I'm sure with the first 2 he has his physical in order.

I see it kinda the same way I think. Anything that I can take with me I'll pay for. Although I will admit I'll not complain if the company pays for it.
Cdl, physical, tools, etc is not the responsibility of the company, it's mine.

Anything that is company specific like a drug test, specific work wear, etc I'll not be paying for it. Even reimbursing me too much can go wrong. I've been screwed by companies before, I'll do everything I can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Heck even a physical I'll refuse to pay for, if the company will not take a valid non-expired med card.

Of course, I make lots of exceptions depending on the situation and how I perceived the individual to be. That’s why I like having s small company because I can have general policy of how we normally do things but can adapt as I see fit to each situation.

I like helping people as long as they help themselves. I loan my guys money on a regular basis if something pops up in their lives and need some help. Flip side of that I’m not a bank so don’t take advantage, I’ve had that too. It’s hard but walking that middle ground is the best you can do.

    Update**

    Hired two men today.

First one I truly hope will work out and I have high hopes for. He set sail today as he first applied last week. Nine yrs experience, no points on license. Has some history but nobody is perfect sometimes people do stupid things when they are young.

Second, no brainer. It’s the kinda gold we have spoke about just fell in my lap today. In all honesty I recognized it and jumped all over it. Applied yesterday, interviewed today, hired today pending drug test. This guy literally pulled out his gloves, grabbed the creeper, and got under the truck to check it out. Was madder then hell when he slightly missed one shift. How refreshing. Work boots, blue jeans, button up shirt, ready to work. I won’t go into details on his situation but as suspected he had non voluntary been out of work and was ready to get back to work. It’s impossible to find these guys if they are employed.

What’s even more funny is he worked for my grandparents 30 yrs ago when I was a little kid. He will be the 2nd to join our program that this was the case. Very special to me considering they are long gone.

Boom, next week we should be at full employment. 8 company trucks and one owner op. I could hire another person but that truck is for sale. Another gold nugget would have to come along to convince me and that’s extremely unlikely to happen.

    Fingers crossed!

Congrats. Hopefully they do turn out to be actual gold and not fool's gold as too many drivers are.
Good at faking an interview, but terrible at the actual work part...

Guy that started last week is doing a great job. He gets killer fuel mileage. Honestly have no idea how he does it. Most people got around 6.2 to 6.4 in that truck. He’s doing 7.5 and that’s at 40% idle. Moving mpg is 8.4.

New All Star guy that once worked for my grand parents started today. Hopefully I don’t regret it but started him in a new 2020 680 X15 12 sp endurant that came in last Friday. I’ve done drive tests with 100’s of drivers and this was the best so far, not to mention 39 yrs exp.

    Omg, fleet is full!

Here is the new honey pot.
