If you think there's some reason that the judge might take into account, you should plead not guilty and schedule a hearing. Judges can often change or extend terms of payment and take your circumstances into consideration in sentencing.
I know 2 fellow drivers who were stopped for DUI in their own private cars. Where I live, they are issued a 24hr permit to drive from the time they are released and can't drive until their court date. If found guilty, the fine is around $3000 and a 1 year suspension of all driving (starting at the conviction date). In both cases, they please not guilty and explained to the judge that without a license they can't support their family (or make child support payments in 1 of the cases) and the judge lifted the suspension in their cases. If they had plead guilty, they would have had no chance. -
Get a local lawyer and have him try to change it in to non-mover. Sometimes you get lucky,- you might get a higher fine +the cost of lawyer. But in the long run it is worth it. And in general a very common practice in law.

I had the same thing happen to me in NM only it was one of those portable scales I didn't see the sign. Ticket was I believe only $180 it never showed up on the insurance.

You'll be alright.

Call and try to speak with the judge to see if it can be reduced at least. You'll pay fines or whatever. For a clean cdl you eat the cost. Make sure you explain Finacial hardship with a moving violation on your record. Hopefully he/she is in a good mood. But don't pay the ticket until you speak with the judge. Paying the fine is admitting guilt. You may not need a lawyer if you can can talk directly with them.

Running a scale and getting a DUI are two very different offences.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
The similarity is that you get a ticket and you have a choice to pay it and serve the punishment or plead not guilty and have a trial. If you opt for a trial, the judge has the discretion to amend the punishment even if you are found guilty. There is also the chance of the state's case faltering under a technicality.
Worst case scenario from trial is being found guilty and paying the fine. ie The same outcome of u pay the ticket (plead guilty and forego a trial)truckon Thanks this.
