Resale value will not increase anymore with a 18 spd then a 13 spd, it's a fact!! The NADA Used Truck Guide has them listed together, you can check it out yourself for like $25 for 3 pulls. It comes down to what you want!!

You put a 13 and 18 next to each other on the lot and the 18 will sell first, all day long, and considering they are more "rare" especially with so many 9 speed convertibles out there, the odds for earning a premium on the sale are much better than both selling for the same price, no matter what NADA says.

    True,

I have been reading about them from both, owners and drivers as well as fleet owners and they are indeed leading the pack. How ever, the PaccarMX seem to be getting better mileage than the Cummins from what I have been reading.

Also as a point of interest, TMC has been buying up 579's left and right.

True on the paccar for what I keep reading.

Is TMC buying cummins on those or paccars?

They're rare cause they are not needed & he shouldn't expect a return above a 13 spd, that's fact!! NADA is a pretty good guide considering they get there info from the industry & not a trucking forum. If he decides to trade it down the road the dealer isn't coming on truckers report for a value. But like I said it's his choice and he is the one that has to be happy with it.

I dont know,.. but seems every time I see a TMC truck he's in a new 579.

My wife was going to come out with me for the summers. After being out with me from June till we got home a week ago,.. she's had enough of the 'open road' and trucker life style. My plan was to buy a T660 with 86" sleeper. But now that its set in stone that I'm going to be alone, my next truck will be geared more toward efficiency, reliability and making me more money. For the longest time I have had a soft spot for the 386. I absolutely love the 386. But the 579 is really growing on me. By next spring when I am ready to buy, there should be some affordable low mileage trucks available. I not a fan of the PaccarMX, despite its fuel saving advantage. I will have the Cummins with either a 13 or 18 spd in mine.

    Lets put this into perspective.

    2 trucks on a lot.
    All things equal, price etc.
One has a 13, the other has an 18.
What truck do you think average Joe is going to buy?

I dont care what NADA statistics show. I know from talking with other owner operators who do what I do, all say if they could have gotten the 18 they would have. Thats a fact.

I've heard pete won't guarantee 8+ mpg on those trannies. Unless you get the ultrashift plus FAOM-15810S-EC3

Well, just came off a year with Maverick pulling flats, 2013 Cascadia, 10 SPD Ultrashift, DD13, 2.65 rears....avg mpg 7.47.....running 65 on the cruise.....just started pulling dry van (intermodal) 2014 Pete 579, Cummins 475hp, 10spd Ultrashift Plus, (guessing 3.30 rears)...avg mpg this week running 68mph (admittedly my first and the truck barely has 123k)....avg mpg 7.17......

Will try to keep it at 65 this week (got a little overexcited with no limiter).....
