Its my first week driving and ive had a preventable accident. My trailer swiped the front end of another truck while pulling through a spot at a shipper yard.
i have a few questions.
1) Since we didn’t call the police and exchanged information, will this effect my state driving record?
2) Can my company fire me? Technically i wasn’t supposed to be driving, but the Dispatch Managers insisted that i stick around for the load. I’ve barely had any sleep at the time of the incident.
3) Since there was no police report, do i have to acknowledge this accident when applying for another company? Because after today im hauling ### as soon as i have enough experience

2) yes, yes they can, you are on probation...technically since you were NOT supposed to drive, but accepted that duty, you have to accept all the responsibility. no sleep is your problem, not the truck that you hit, nor your dispatchers.....
3) YES, every time you fill out an application, YOU MUST add this under "any accidents" section...as your company WILL tell the new employer you had an accident.Another Canadian driver and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
Dude, if you feel too tired to drive, or they try to coerce you to drive when not legal or safe, tell em to eff off.

I wouldn't report it just yet. Wait until you're ready to leave for another company, then check you DAC report. If it's not on your DAC report, then don't put it on job applications.
The company may not even use DAC anyway.
You can get a copy of your DAC report, if there is one, on this website:

It's your license/carrer . YOU and only you have to protect it. Just say NO. This sends a signal to not ask you. Welcome to trucking where mistakes become experience.

I had my first preventable on my 3rd day solo. I was backing into a spot at a truck stop and hit the truck next to me. Damage was minor. He had a chrome hubcap on his front steer and I broke it and also put a 6ish inch scratch on his front fender. It was a Celedon truck. He was nice to me and we exchanged info. I got fussed at and warned by my company, obviously. But, I survived. Just a couple weeks later Celedon went out of business, so always wondered if any insurance claim was ever actually paid on it.
Learn your lesson and move on.Another Canadian driver, okiedokie, buddyd157 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You side swiped somebody in week one? Oof. Well don’t take pictures and with no police report MAYBE you can get it removed from your DAC. Remember that your first company has the privilege of giving you miles. Accident free miles. Run as safe as reasonably possible. DON’T CHASE THE MONEY. Master your craft and when you become reliable and have a year of experience just move companies. Don’t hold your breath on pleasing the office staff of dollar tree dedicated.
