Title says it all. Last night the top of my truck hit some low hanging power lines. The tension of the wires broke the supporting pole to my left about 150 feet away and sliced through the top of a shed/tractor barn to the other side damaging roughly about 2 feet of roof. The people of the property came outside and we assessed the safety of the situation. I was actually at the residence for a few hours finishing a construction job. The people were great about everything and werent concerned about the shed and told me not to worry about it and they can fix it no problem. The cable and phone wires were stuck to the top of my truck and PGE had to lift them in order for me to get out safely. To my amazement PGE did not want any information about me or my company, insurance, and no pictures were taken. I took some and a video on my phone just in case. The lineman said this happens all of the time and he just wrote it up that a truck damaged low hanging wires that were not at least 14 feet. He said they will be responsible for fixing the wires and replacing the pole and everything attached to it. The only claim that may come back is the damaged shed roof but the residents didnt seem so concerned. I plan on discussing what happened Monday morning in person with my boss and explaining that everything is ok. I should have been more aware and gotten out and looked. For that I am completely at fault and will do more in the future to prevent such an incident. The important thing is everyone was safe and uninjured-the residents even offered for me to come back later and hang out at their bonfire! Is there any other measure I should take in the matter? I just want to make sure I did and can do everything according to procedure.

As long as you do notify your boss/safety dpt. My questions is why do you call this your FIRST? I hope your not planning on more! Glad it was so minor, and hope bossman say's don't worry!

Do it again and tell them, "Maybe if you weren't so greedy/lazy, this wouldn't happen! Put the wires higher or a warning sign up!"
    What I would do.

If the wires wernt 14 feet, the power company is responsable for all damage. That does not mean you should not have looked first, but, that could explain those line workers not wanting to raise a fuss.

You will know it is ok in a couple weeks if your boss does not get a bill from his insurance company after the power company submits it to cover its expense.

Should be, is what Im thinking, as if the wires would have been at the proper height the accident would not have happened in the first place.
But, I am not a lawyer, for what its worth.

Temperature affects how much wires will droop. But not a considerable amount...

Hope things work out for the best.

In the last year two drivers at my company were let go for not reporting (or trying to hide) accidents.
