So everything was going great. Many compliments on my driving and my shifting. Said I was the best student he's had and that I am doing much better in my first week then most are at there 6th week. So 1 night I am doing my turn at the wheel and my mentor wakes up and starts freaking out on me. Cussing and screaming causing one hell of a hostile enviroment. Reason being, its un-human to drive 6-7 hours with out a break. I was on my 9th hour with no problems lifes good listening to the XM in the truck. Wasn't speeding, driving erratic nothing... After he continued I figured it was time for me to get out. I found the next RA and got my stuff and got out. Tried getting ahold of swift to no surprise no one answers the phone. I gave up and went to survival mode. 40 degrees out just put my gear on and started walking. I can't believe no one at swift cares. I didn't know it was a crime to have a work ethic of you can rest when the jobs done or your body says its time to take a break. I am not a kid, I am an adult that knows what my body can and can't do. For all you future swifties I hope you get a good mentor.:biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551:

Good luck with the rest of your training. Since you got off the truck they will more than likely list you as having quit and you now owe them for your "training".

Well here's the wierd part. This all happened last friday. So I waited all weekend to call first thing this morn. After calling my bosses bosses boss. I finally got somewhere. During that conversation I recieved a phone call from a new mentor. My boss agrees with me I did the right thing and that he doesn't know what to say. I asked why he never called me back to see what was up and I got the same response of I didn't know what to say... If I didn't need this so badly I would try something else. I hate to quit tho, but theres no reason to be hostile over something so stupid. I think the guy was acusing me of being on drugs, so I even told the boss today you want to piss sample i'll gladly do it. I just want to drive, there is so much to learn and so much to see. I'm not a complete #######, unless you ask my wife. I have a degree in automotive, working in a dealership for 8 years and then I got bored with that and decided to try electrical. Got my license and was highly saught after. Me being the ####### I quit my job to move to Oregon cause my wife wanted to be somewhere warmer. (came from Alaska) I have had nothing but bad luck since i've gotten here. I love driving tho love it like nothing else in the world!! Some call me sick, I prefer pationet.

I hate to say it but you should have done a little more research because swift uses "mentors" with hardly any experience. The only companies that are actively looking for drivers are the ones that can not keep drivers. Or the bottom feeders. You're lucky they are not going to put into DAC a truck abandonment. Never trust any recruiter or the company and always follow up and make sure your record is clear and clean. If it is you'll just have to stick out your time and bite your tongue. That will be hard because it already sounds like you've got a good footing and you're going to be dealing with idiots. Do your time and leave as soon as you can so that company does not destroy your record.

A good company does not have recruiters or do they need to advertise. So once you're out there and get a little time behind you you'll have a good feeling for companies that are decent. Just always know that swift can end your career even when you're right.

Thanks Gashauler thats fantastic advice. I am just going to bite my tongue and get my 6 months and then try to find a better company. I hate starting out at the bottom and also getting stereo typed that I don't know my head from my butt. (my head smells better) I look upto every person behind the wheel of a big rig. I have learned so much that first week, and look forward to so much more. I'm hoping once I get my 6 months in, on the day, I'm calling Gordon trucking inc. as I have heard alot of good things about them.

While true they do push for people to become mentors only after 6 months of driving. But my mentor had 10yrs of driving, and I will say he was great. Never yelled, cursed, or said any thing bad about my driving.. He also never went into the sleeper until we were on my 5th-6th week of training (teams) he use to buy me food, and showers almost daily, as he knew I had a wife and kids at home, and because this was a new career, I did not have much money.. To this day we are good friends and keep in touch as often as possible.. He left Swift for a local job back home, about 1yr after I left for my local job..

I also knew a new driver who was on his 5th trainer, as the ones he had were all bad news.. He just finished 8yr in the military, and this was a job he wanted to do.. To him it was no big deal, he wasn't upset or nothing, but found a real owner operator to finish his training with.. good luck, and never put up with #### from your mentor. If he treats you like c r a p, then you tell your training coordinator, he will find you a new one..

What do you mean you couldn't contact Swift? Hello 800 to Phoenix all day long 24/7 365. Sounds a little far fetched for me to buy. No mentor would have a problem with a student going 9 straight hours unless there were some problems with your driving or you didn't follow directions. Just doesn't sound right to me.
