A little embarrassed to be asking this. I am an o/o but Ihave a fuel tank at my home and have always been able to fill up at home. Forthe first time I'll need to be away from home longer and will need to fuel upat a truck stop. I've read a few posts on here without finding the answer I'mlooking for.
I will need to just pay with a credit card but I don't know what the process isfor this. Is it just like a car where I can fuel up and go in and pay after? Orwhat do I need to do to make the process fast and not hold anyone up? Thanks
First time at the fuel pump

Can't help with the card part I fuel with a company card. But I can tell you don't worry about holding people you'll probably find someone holding you up anyway LOL and when your done if you need to go inside just pull up to the yellow line so someone can fuel up behind you.

Some places there is a cap limit on credit cards at the pump. Just go inside and tell them how you are paying and they will get all the info they need and then you fill up.
Word of warning. Let the credit card company know what you are doing or it may get denied.. Had that happen to me. Felt like a fool. Then I called and asked why they denied it?
They took care of it real quick -
Most fuel islands at big T/S have a phone that calls the fuel desk. If you call them they'll explain what you have to do to pay by credit card. I have a local fuel card so I'm like you sometimes when I have to get fuel away from home. I've never had a problem when I ask them first.

Fueling with a CC! Make sure you are getting reward points or flying miles!!! Hehehee

Wouldn't it be...
Stick in your credit card, then your rewards card.
Then follow the prompts and then pump the fuel.
?
Why would you need to go in to the fuel desk at all?
And no, you can't pump a couple hundred gallons by simply turning on the pump and then go in to pay.
You either do it at the pump first, or first go in to the fuel desk and give them your card. -
Speaking of.....thank God I have a company fuel card. I feel so bad (and sometimes irritated) for those guys who end up stuck parked at the fuel island for 30min+ while they are at the fuel desk with the clerk on the phone to the credit card company and the driver is on the phone with the truck owner trying to figure out why the boss's credit card is declined. Or having to cash a comcheck every time they fuel.

id add that before i began using a cc for purchases of fuel regularly, id look at some of those deals for a few cents off cash price type cards out there. cc price is higher to begin with (what a racket), so if i were paying for my own fuel on a regular basis, id be looking to get the best deal. of course if you almost always use your own pump, and this is a once in awhile thing, not much difference i guess. but at 100 gallons a day (heck even at 50 per day for a more local driver) that 10 cents per gallon translates to $1200 per year. get a debit or cc at a bank that has no charge or small charges at atm, and pay cash if nothing else.

Be very aware that when you use your card at the Pilot and many others that they are going to ask you how much. Whether you pump that much or not it doesn't matter they will still deduct the amount you originally told them to begin with. It will take a few days before they will refund you for the amount you did not use. So if you tell them you want $500 worth of fuel that is what you will be charged for on your card even if you only pump $350. Two to three days later they will refund you the rest of the money you did not use. Just be weary because this will tie up your money!
