So I started with a company Tuesday was supposed to ride with someone for 2 weeks so I could get some securement training but when I showed up to the yard they said the guy I was supposed to ride with wasn't going to show up that day couldn't get a ride to the shop so they say anyway they gave me the keys toy own truck and a load to go pick up so I did and all went well thanks to the guys at the shipper giving me some pointers in charming the load so I delivered that one yesterday then picked up another load yesterday an all has went fine so that said my question to all is what general pointers can be givin to me because the last 3 days have been very nerve racking not knowing if my securement is correct

Finding a new company an option? Your boss is setting you up to fail and worst of all doesn't care what could happen to you or the people around you.

What'll be your excuse when DOT pulls you over and you have straps 12' apart? Do it the right way and get the training necessary. Don't be a fool just because you need a paycheck.

you can never oversecure a load. just take your time and look at it and use common sense. I was never trained on a flatbed either.

Well as far as putting straps 12 ft apart I wouldn't do that I know the have to be no more than 10ft apart example I'm hauling 2 booms for an excavator so I have 4 prices 2 are 20ft so I used 5 straps because they are side by side the other 2 pieces are 13 ft so I used 4 straps I know that's a little more than I needed but its what I felt was safe

craggy1982 gave good advice. My first load was some machinery being shipped from a closed factory to a place for refurbishment half way across the country; no problems at all, with absolutely no training. Use common sense; look at the load & think what would happen to the load if you did this or that going down the road, then secure it to counteract what may happen.

What are you trying to secure? Cars and tractors are secured differently than a load of steel pipe.

Youtube has some excellent videos that might help also. It's already been mentioned, use common sense and take your time. I take the approach that nothing is going to move. I don't care if it takes an extra hour and more chains and straps. I'm not going to have something come off of my trailer and kill someone.
