Well I have always believed if you book a load you don't cancel it.

Today I did it for the first time.
This company calls me only if they can't find their regulars to deliver the loads, they keep telling us they have to take care of their regulars first. Before Christmas we could not get a load out of Ontario if my life depended on it. The rates going to Florida are bad and even worse coming out. Now we are getting more calls. I guess nobody wants to go down to Florida.

I booked this 1,700 mile reefer load # 43,000 lbs. with 3 drops paying $2,200 going to Miami. I asked if she can do better on the rate. She explained to me this is what they are getting every day.

I just got off the phone when line 2 lit up. Another customer offering a dry load 1,300miles @19,500 lbs. with 2 drops going for $2,000 going to Orlando. I told them that I wish I could however I can't truck is booked.
After I got off the phone I thought about it for a few seconds, picked up the phone and called the dry freight dispatcher and booked the load. Then before I got a fax confirmation I called the reefer load dispatcher and explained the truck is booked with another company, they did not sound too happy. However I thought if they book these loads every day at the rate she offered me she will find someone else very easily to pull the load.

I'm not too proud of myself however I have to do what is best for my drivers and company.
    What do you guy's think?

I have done that before with the same load. Someone low balls the price and then it get posted for more money from someone else. You are in business to make money, not haul for free!

They both are too low, in my opinion. Hope you get a load from Orlando !!

I wouldn't have hauled either one.

But I wouldn't shed a tear for them, they wouldn't do it for you.

Last week I had a TQL load out of Nogalas. pickup sunday by 6pm. I had a 1pm delivery in Phoenix so I told them it may be close. His exact words were, don't worry, if you can't make it the load is okay to pick up monday. Well I got out of Phoenix at 3pm I had to get a tire replaced so I didn't get there. Monday morning at 7am my phone rings and they cancelled the load on me.

Canceled loads are part of this biz. Matching trucks with freight can be a problem. This is America, we chase that big dollar, right?

Don't forget; those brokers are out to make their money too. The cheaper they can pay out to a driver, the more they can pocket. Nothing against brokers, it's just the game.

Before I'd haul either one of those loads, I'd back this thing up against the fence and put it on blocks!

    I DON'T HAUL CHEAP FREIGHT!

Easier said then done. I have drivers and their families to look after.

Trust me, we have turned down 60% of the freight offered to us.

I wouldn‘t worry about it. If you haul that cheap brokers will line up to give you freight.
