Well I know this is pointless, but I'll ask anyways.I've been driving for 8 years and EVERYTIME I start thinking about getting my Own Truck,I come across an O/O,telling me DON'T DO IT !
I've heard BOTH sides of the issue, and obviously,my Main Reason is to Drive where I want & the Potential of making MORE $$$$.And I run hard being single !:biggrin_25525:
I've come to some Fundamental decisions about thinking of being a First time O/O,from talking to other O/O's. Give me your opinion if I've come to these Logical Conclusions ? Please spare me your smart ### reply's !
This is a Life Changing Decision ! Not a Stand Up comedy routine.

    (a) DO NOT Lease with ANY Company !
    (b) Buy the Truck on your Own.Just like paying for my C.D.L. on my own,if things don't work out ? You can LEAVE !:biggrin_25519:
    (c) Have at least $ 10,000 in the bank for Emergencies !
    (d) DO NOT buy Cat Engines? I've read articles on line, they are not Good at M.P.G.?
    (e) Landstar is a Good Company for first time O/O's? I've talked to Landstar drivers and they have said that they will : ' Hold your Hand as Long as you want them to..'
    (f) Join O.O.I.D.A.,they have been helpfull to First time O/O's with the Do's & Dont's.
    (g) DO NOT buy a Truck 2010,or Newer !(because of Emmisions?)Buy bettween 2002-2008.
    (h) Get a A.P.U. ! This is a No Brainer. It will pay for itself in less than a Year, especially if you run hard.Everydriver has said this to me.
(I)Use Mobil Oil (Syntheic) instead of Rotella ?

Well there are many more, but these are the basics I want your Opinions on.
If I'm off on any of these conclusions? Let me know.

If there is something IMPORTANT that I forgot? Like,it doesn't matter how HIGH Fuel gets ! you can still make a Profit, because of the Fuel Sur charges?

    Thanks.

so far everything i read is true except one thing cats are ok as long as the truck is set up rite i had a c15 with a 13 speed and 355 rears and got 6.2 as long as i kept my foot out of it but had a ten speed c13 that couldent get over 4 mpg if the c13 had a 13 and 355s it would have gottin at least 6 to 7 Ive figured out the best was my dtroit 60s series it averaged 6.5 to 7.2

his facts are just wrong. too much to type on my phone but his emmissions onfo is wrong. his reserve money is for someone leasing to a co not going independant and do u really think you will recoup the cosr of a 8-10k apu in one year? nevermind the maintenance on yhem nightmares

Dont do it unless youre crazy. He's right that 8-10k$ is maybe enough reserve if leasing on. It would cover a month's worth of fuel if independant hope your customers pay the freight in 30 days or less. I leased on with 15$k cash reserve, everything that couldve gone wrong did, a really sad country song at times. I burned thru that cash quick, almost built it back up by this past november. Murphy came along, personal expense this time, not business.. ..thankfully. I'm still optimistic but after a year and a half of ups and downs it hasnt been easy. actually its crazy i'm starting to think if i do get that 15k back forget recouping the cost of equipment, never mind the other 10's of thousands spent, sometimes i think wasted, on maintinence.. ..time to park it and sell. scratch it up to a foolish risk and be happy to get out with that little having invested and lost so much. I didnt do this to get rich i did it because i love my work and my truck. there is a lot of headache at times. i recently took a week off and only had to grease the truck. normally those weeks are spent working on the truck, or paying for things i cant tackle, and running alll over creation picking up parts.. maybe you can get a warranty lol.. sound like fun? ha!
