Be more specific....at least on the areas. The east to the mid-west covers quite a bit of territory. Also are you talking about a re-set- or just a 10 hour break.....

NE Ohio and NW Penn have some awesome spots, if you were planning on taking the big truck with you- good luck. The lakes ain't a bad place. Got a bit of extra money? Hit up a marina, there's typically a group of guys looking for an extra to help pay for a charter. Plenty of beer and catch limits are typically combined, not that you want, `ya know, 50 lb's of raw perch in your truck or anything, but the guys that you went in on the charter with might give you your money back if you let them keep your take.
All the lakes have breakwalls around the towns to smooth out the harbors, situated on the lakefront- toss a good long cast into the calm water and you'll start yanking stuff in. Bear in mind, I'm talking about fishing OFF the breakwall. Please don't toss hooks into the shallow water where we swim.
A lot of small lakes in the area, but they're all state gamelands (on both sides of the border) and I don't see the ODNR or PennNR game managers looking too kindly on a semi sitting in the small parking areas. You won't see too much in the streams or creeks this time of the year. Maybe a lonely channel cat or a very brave small mouth. Mosquito lake in the county next to mine is full of starving fish and they're hitting hard these past weeks, from what I hear from my old friends down that way.
You can always go hit up the "pond" behind the woodshed in Big cabin, OK -
If in Nebraska I always look at (for lack of a better word) ponds on I-80. Once in a GREAT while I see a Big Truck fishing one of em-but how to get in there-well you're on your own.
I had a GREAT time visiting with locals fishing the pond at the T.S. in Big Cabin,Okiehoma a couple years ago.. -
I think everyone has fished Big Cabin.
I fished Rend Lake in IL many times. You can park at the rest area on I-57 S and it's a short walk. You'll do better fishing under the bridge or there's a little cove to the south.
Another spot is I-24 W in TN there is a rest area on an island in the middle of Nickajack Lake. Cut through the west end of the car parking lot is a nice grass spot through the woods.
Find some place secluded. Remember you are required to have a temporary out of state fishing license if you are fishing somewhere frequented by a game warden. I don't know all the state laws but everyone I've lived in was the same way.mhyn Thanks this. -

Ok ..If you get into NC any , the Outer banks offer some really good fishing , also there is an abundance of local lakes in and around most towns that have parking (without a trailer ) , some even have boat rentals available. Lots of good crappie , large mouth bass , and catfish to catch as well as trout in some of the mountain lakes and streams, however access may be much more limited there. You can call any local /county fish and game office to find out particulars , or search this site for any relevant info in NC.....go to this site then click on fishing... www.ncwildlife.org/

Awesome hunting out that way, we went boar hunting over in TN after that...Dad tried to give me a shot at a 300 lb boar, I totaly screwed it up! Unbelievably the hounds we were running tracked this huge mean ### boar about 3 miles at full tilt through the woods until they cornered her in a gully. Dad took the shot and dropped her.
We're getting sightings of boar in NE Ohio, gonna get interesting how ODNR has sportsmen deal with this. I ain't going after one without a rifle, no way no how am I'm approaching any boar with a shotgun which is a pain since we can't hunt with rifles down this way.
This reminds me: there needs to be a hunting/fishing section on TTR. Perhaps even one centered around getting guys out into the woods, near truck stops (without their pants down)...Last edited: Apr 3, 2014

I used to carry a fishing pole and my surf board !!
There is lots of places to drop a line in the ocean and lots of little streams on the back roads in all the states .
Surfing is better on the west coast in my opinion .
But like they any surfing is better than no surfing!!!!
