You're getting 7 mpg. Using no oil. Engine smokes at startup on cold mornings then levels off.
Driver it sounds like normal operation for an older diesel. Surely others have told you this before.
It sounds like your lack of knowledge has cost you a lot of money.

I don’t understand deducting the mileage from the old motor off the new motor’s warranty.........

If he paid for the new motor and it came with 3/300,000 or whatever.... he should get that coverage.

That's the place I was looking at. Did you buy the lava one or just the fiberglass? Was there a noticeable lowering on egt temps?

I got the lava. Indeed, it helps keeping exhaust flowing good and keeping EGT’s a little lower. Also keeps intake side of turbo a little cooler so intake air doesn’t catch heat from the exhaust side.

Been driving for 27yrs . I ve never seen a detroit blow smoke at start up as bad as this . Trust me i can blanket a trk stop in a matter of 1min with thick bluish smoke that will make alot of drivers come unglued if theyre sleeping. Also had exhaust manifold pulled and 3 of the cylinders exhaust ports have moister but not oil so they say. Turbo shows no signs of oil either. But looking at my exhaust muffler there is signs of oil dripping at the clamp where down pipe connects to muffler. Freightliner has no clue what it is.
By the way they also stated trk smokes to much after they had it overnight started next morning outside temps were in low 50s

My detroit has alot of soot at the pipes some days the chrome is covered with soot like you see if truck been in rain 1st start up. Side of truck gets soot all over it as well. The smoke is so bad i cant park in my neighborhood lol its over powering burning diesel kinda smell 6.9 mpg at 63 65 mph best i get with 10sp 3.42 geared. Odd thing is both engines do same. So im thinking i got wiring or maybe ecm issue. Maybe injectors not getting proper ohms due to bad pin something . My neighbors glider no smoke maybe a haze 3 4 min then pipes burn clean

Any outside temp below 40deg. You start the truck sounds like somebody with a 20lb sledge hammer beating the crap out of the block bangs real hard . Freightlines call it diesel knock took video of it sent to them thats what they replied back with.

You need to check your model number with Detroit. Give them or a dealer your engine serial number. From what I understand there is an issue with the 6067PK and 6067GK (15.0:1 compression) engines and OEM rebuild parts. Also if you buy a new Fitzgerald with a 12.7 Detroit, DO NOT IDLE IT LESS THAN 1000 RPM. They use aftermarket steel liners and the rings are bad about not seating. I have ran these engines 1 million + miles for decades and never had a problem with oil consumption until dealing with Fitzgerald. I don't think it's totally their fault and they have been great with multiple under 200,000 mile warranty rebuilds. Hell they replaced an entire block on a 2015 model recently. Truck had approximately 90,000 miles on it. Of course I couldn't count the revenue we have lost but they do stand behind their product. Get ready for them to blame it on your excessive idling. Any maintenance records and oil analysis you can provide will be helpful. Good luck!

I'm in a fitz glider 12.7 that I just realized smokes blue at 0 degree f start, for a good long while. Also some spec for cold weather use have a tune called winter start or something that cuts cylinders while warming up to make it warm faster. Smoke will look like a freight train. I'm not sure I have this time. I know some real good independent Detroit guys if you want to contact them.
