I flat out do not understand why someone would spend a ton money on a special build truck that has a motor with only 1650ftlbs of torque, when 1850 is all over the place? I do not get it. Brick trucks are about image, pride, swagger, a place to hang chromed bull's balls, etc. Put a power motor in it a go haul non aero freight. I agree, I would like to see Fitz put a 6nz or even a 7cz in the gliders they stock.
Here's that Pete Glider with a Cat and Fitz decal.

If I understand it right, there are now 16 additional states pursuing the CARB standard. Doesn't CA already prohibit routine entry to the state of non-emissions trucks? So it's only a matter of time before the others adopt that and finally the EPA itself will. Whether it requires additional federal legislation, or if they have sufficient authority already, I do not know. I think the time will come when there will be no non-emissions trucks allowed anywhere. The question would be whether that would be before or after one had used up the gliders lifespan. If you get a million miles, it is probably well worth it, if only a few years, ouch. Do ya trust the current government?
gl, c yaJokingypsy Thanks this. -
IRS deals with tax issues not EPA. OOIDA recently filed lawsuit against CARB but many here claim the court's have settled it. To me, but I am no lawyer, it boils down to a state overstepping it's authority and regulating out of state trucks violating interstate commerce clause. A challenge was issued anyone not based in CA show us a real ticket for driving a truck too old. To date no-one has done it. Hearing there's all sorts of "illegal" trucks still operating there as if business as usual.

There is recently some concern over how much longer the FEDS are going to let non-FET trucks be sold. They are losing appox. 12,000 on every glider that rolls out the door, and are looking at how to get their piece of the pie back.
Just your tax dollars at work,,,,,, trying to get MORE OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS!

When I wrote what I did about the EPA issue, I had forgot about the FET exemption. It does not surprise me that they would see this as lost money that they are going after. So buying soon might save you some dollars, it looks like. Maybe even needs to be very, very soon. There does remain the issue that CARB is probably going to be expanding in a way that could make it much harder to use gliders OTR. How long before the feds adopt it as national just to close the gap on the emissions issue? I think it is coming very soon.

Although I hate to admit it, I think you are right, I REALLY debated on buying newer emission trucks two years ago, but as time goes on, I think it was really my only option, esp. with as many miles as we put on in Cali. -
For those running Fitz gliders with the Detroits how hard is it to get repairs done on the road?
We're considering buying a half-dozen of them, for runs that don't go anywhere near California, but if a truck is going to be down a few days waiting for parts it won't do us any good. -
That is way better than my mbn c-15 getting 5.19 mpg or my friend's Coronado with 14.0l egr getting 5 mpg after it was rebuilt.

You can get whatever Cat motor you want in a Fitz Glider, I'm having one built right now. You just buy the truck from Thompson Cat, they supply motor, clutch and trans to Fitzgerald. You then get 4yr, unlimited mile OTR warranty on parts supplied by Cat.
Lime Hauler, Steel Dragon and BigJls1 Thank this.
