But what the article failed to mention was all the issues with those emissions systems that most smaller outfits and O/ops cannot afford to deal with. And what about all the other forms of industry that are spewing emissions. I'm not going to get into all the climate change because I'm just a dumb car hauler. But I can see both sides of the coin when it comes to a Glider versus an emissions truck. I do know we have dumped alot of money into a Volvo and the emissions is still not working and won't Regen so it sits. If we had bought a glider we'd be rollin' still. And the reason you don't see a lot of hoods in the truck stops is because us "dinosaurs" know a bunch of plastic truck drivers cannot navigate around them so they find alternative parking!
Just my $.02...I could be wrong -
If gliders were such a big savings, the bean counters at the megas would be all over them.
The mega's buy new trucks at a discount and sell them off between 400-500 k mileage for $70k..pretty good deal..essentially paying maybe $50,000 for a few years use of a new truck. -

And Schneider for years made thier own ....most new companies ditch new trucks before they hit 450k miles the beginning of hell for emmission problems.....most owner ops and small fleets make thier money by keeping trucks to a million or more miles different business models one based on debt and leverage one on profit and megas have a belief that they cannot get drivers without shiney new trucks
Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
"It's colder where I am so that means the global average rising doesn't matter."Steel Dragon Thanks this.
