Read the article. Typical biased reporting that is rampant these days. The "scientific" community is basing "global warming" off last 120 years or so and world has been around how long??? That is another debate. It is all about people trying to feel good about themselves and politics. They are using computer modeling with THEIR data. Hell, the weather people can't predict the weather the next day, how in the hell can they tell what is going to happen 100 years from now. Weather goes through cycles. They never look at the big picture on emissions. Higher emissions at the tailpipe doesn't mean that the vehicle has a greater environmental impact. Need to look at actual fuel burnt in truck and all the resources needing to keep truck going. Newer engines require more of everything so they have a greater negative impact on the environment, but it really isn't about the environment!

Don't need to, the trucks that go over their lease mileage limits, the Mega's keep and sell on their own, so they don't have to pay excessive mileage penalties to the manufacturer.
The others they try to turn them in before they reach 500k miles.Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
I am sure they do whatever makes most sense TAX wise on equipment on own vs lease. Why do they want to get rid of them @ 500,000? I am guessing maintenance goes thru the roof because of emission issue. Read an article a couple months back that cost for fleets used to be #1 fuel and #2 tires. Guess what, Emissions is creeping into #2 spot over tires. I don't think tires have gotten that much better!Steel Dragon, snowman_w900 and SAR Thank this.

Usually they try to get rid of them before the factory warranty ends, but that's not always feasible when you have 10k-15k + trucks out there and you have to try to rotate the old ones in and assign the new ones to replace them.
The ones that are over miles, they keep them and sell them themselves, wholesale them, or take them to an auction.Steel Dragon Thanks this.
