Never drove for them but I saw plenty of their trucks last week when I was down that way on vacation. Thought about calling them to see what their pay and benefit package is like. Doing the same work up here in INDY, just getting tired of the cold winters. I'm not a spring chicken any more, if you catch my meaning.

i hauled gas in port everglades (ft. lauderdale) in 2009-10 for a competitor of fl.rock . generally speaking the gas hauler companys want about 11 hours a day and 6 days a week from the drivers. that is the usual that i have seen. night shift and a day shift. night starts 3pm-5pm
and day starts 3am-5am. if you were to ask some of these drivers, most are gonna say trips pay on the low side. example the short trips minimum pay of about $30-$35 and it would take anywhere from 1.5 -2.5 hours to complete it, so not that good of money in my opinion. sometimes you have 5 really short trips or 2 longer ones. depending on the accounts you were assigned my best guess $13-$18 hour. also you will probably pay substantial amount for health insurance also.

I worked for them in Pensacola for about a year. They used to have a minimum guarantee pay of $800 a week if you worked 5 days that week. Reason being the gas plants might get backed up for loading or have issues and need to shut down for whatever reason. You will work your ### off and slip seat with someone else. The actual labor involved isn't too hard, it's the time constraint that you're working with when it comes to getting the truck back in time for your slip seat partner. If you stay friendly with the dispatch department you can make a decent living.

I checked with them and the pay for hauling hazmat was not disclosed but from what I hear the benefits are better than most in the area.

Two weeks ago they were advertising and a TWIC was mandatory so the ad said, I think they are hauling out of the Tampa port as well. Come this winter the port is getting a mega upgrade for fuel transfer and it will be a major fuel terminal so the story goes.

i was only in port tampa one time, it appeared to be a smaller operation as compared to port everglades (ft. lauderdale) you will probably have to pay for a twic card about $140. they are required to enter any facility that is on a waterway controlled by the u.s. coastguard as far as i know. in port everglades you needed a twic and a port i.d. card, but the carriers usually paid for those $50.

When I worked for "the Rock" they were willing to pay for your TWIC card as long as you stayed employed with them for a year after its issued date. If you quit or get fired before the year is up they simply take the fee out of your last paycheck.
