Probably not what you had in mine, but I use a Petzl headlamp. I use it for storm work and occasional I've done some work in the mines. It fits both on hardhats and without a hardhat. It's not 100% waterproof (can't hold underwater for long), not cheap, nor the brightest, but it's light, weatherproof (rain, snow), more then bright enough to work on the truck or walk around in complete darkness, and on low it will last for 3-4 nights (continous 8hr shifts), on bright it will last about 1-2 nights (continous 8 hr shifts). I've had it for about three years and I think it cost about $60.00.

mag light---and some kind or rechargeable light as well

if cost is not an option. go to a fire/police supplier online, like quartermaster. can get waterproof/shock proof rechargables for 125.00 and lower that will darn near last you a lifetime.

My Mag is almost 7 years old, and still ticking.
It's been used as a tire thumper, a fifth wheel prop (after jumping the fifth wheel), and a whole host of things it was never intended for.gdyupgal Thanks this. -
I would get something like a maglite. Maybe a couple cheap back up ones too. The little keychain led's are useful. Once you get your truck though replace the booklight above your head with a blue or red bulb. This will really help at night. You don't have to run with it on, although some drivers do, but it is much better than the blinding white light.

i'm thinkin about puttin a green bulb there.

Stay away from the black ones!

Never know what you might see!!Pmracing Thanks this. -
I have to agree on the Maglite, they're indistructable, adjustable patern, waterproof, and comes with a spare bulb in the bottom. I used to have a 4 cell, but found that the 2 cell suits my use on the truck better. Good luck and always keep good quality extra batteries.

So using it as a tire thumper hasn't affected it all..is it was you use as your tire thumper always or on occasion?
