Flashed files: How do I know

I have an 03 379EXHD with the 6NZ @ 550HP. I bought this truck used last fall from a dealer. It was previously owned by an O/O who took real good care of it and it appears to have had work done on the motor. It runs great, gets good MPG for a hood with a CAT but I'm always looking for ways to improve that. My question is how can I tell if the ECM has been flashed or replaced and what would be the best files to run with on this motor for optimal performance and MPG? What other mods would help and how can I tell if they've been done? I've got a good truck with a good motor and I want to make it the best possible if it isn't already. I'm no expert but I am mechanically inclined.

Could I flash my 6NZ with a 7CZ 600hp brakesaver file and set my FLS/FTS to 74/-19? Someone recommended this and I don't have a clue if it would be a good idea or even possible. If so, why? And what is FLS/FTS.

The FLS is the fuel load setting. The FTS is fuel torque setting. It takes the right amount of air pressure and flow, fuel pressure and flow, as well as timing to get one at its best. Most put all their stock in pressure cause it kinda makes sense if its got enough pressure it has to have flow. That is usually right but not always. What I'm getting at is before I flashed it I would make sure that the air your current turbo provides matches that needed for the file you are going to. The add more fuel recipe doesn't always work without adding air. CAT is famous for using turbo's that are not enough as it is and will run out of air in a hard pull. That's usually when the exhaust temp goes to rising. To get enough air up top then the bottom suffers and you have some turbo lag its give and take. Its best to look at turbo maps with different wheel housing combinations to get real close and even then you sometimes miss. That gets expensive. The FLS/FTS the FLS setting counts the revs and tells the ECM when tostart adding fuel, The FTS tells it how much. They are file specific usually so each file has a different set. I have a list that tells what numbers work best for each file. I usually don't change them cause it doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference you can feel unless they have been changed and what is in the ECM doesn't match any thing that should be. I have never had anybody tell me they had a noticeable difference at the fuel desk either. I seem to have better luck with matched injectors and the trims set at what is on the injectors. I understand the if it would get better idea, I am the same. I also have the if its not broke don't fix it idea. I usually wait till things are showing a little wear and needing replaced to uprate my turbo or injectors at that time.

That makes sense and I agree with the concept if it isn't broke don't fix it. But if there's a relatively inexpensive way to noticeably improve performance, then I would want to at least take a look at that possibility.

Right such as hooking up ET and recording current values before changing them. Just in case you want to change back or realize you went the wrong way. A mans driving style may go hand in hand ith the FLS FTS SETTINGS. What works well for you may not be a fit.

So what are the stock settings? How can I tell if the ECM has been changed or flashed short of taking it in and hooking it up?
I have a feeling tho no proof that the original owner may have already done things to improve performance as it seems to do fairly well in the mpg dept. for a hood truck with a big CAT. Some sort of free flow exhaust for one. Also there are a lot of gauges unhooked as if the harness may have been replaced or unhooked for some reason possibly an out of frame. Tranny and rear end temps. No paperwork but the dealer did say it had some kind of overhaul.

Can I run the 7CZ 600hp file with no hardware changes?

I.M.O. you are going into a big NO,NO, on this forum, wish it were not this way, but the forum police like the n.s.a. don't like certain topics being discussed, this is one of them, good luck.

Why is that? For asking if my pre emission truck's ECM can be replaced with another pre emission ECM to improve performance and MPG?

A lot of us are asking the same questions on this topic. It doesn't make sense and has ran some good people off that enjoyed talking and sharing info on the subject. I had several pages bookmarked of good info but they got deleted out of fear. Should of taken pictures of it. if I would of known they would be banned I would have. Welcome to silence the free speech where we only talk about what others say is ok.
On your questions there is no way to tell what files are in your ECM until you hook it up

I think you'll have to get it read by someone that reflashes ecms. He should be able to recognize non stock Id numbers or settings.
