I need to get in the tire business if they are charging $50-$75 for a patch. You can remove the tire, patch it, and put in back on in 30 minutes max.
We usually patch and replace our own tires, if we can make it back to the shop.
Flat tire emergency kit, are they useful as a permanent solution?

I carry a Safety Seal Tire plug kit at all times, they're made for plugging truck tires. They have the heavy duty longer and wider plugs and the heavy duty tools and lube. I also use rubber cement to lube the plug ,it helps getting the plug into 16 ply tires, which can sometimes be pretty tough, and helps seal it a little better. We haul construction demolition debri (C&D) and between the transfer station or demo site and the landfill we are always
Picking up nails and screws and everything else.I also carry an air hose , bead blaster and 20 ton bottle jack in case it comes off the rim and loses all its air. I don't like to plug steer tires if I don't have to but will in an emergency and then have the tire fixed at a tire shop and use it as a trailer tire. I have had plugs last a long time in a tire before repairing the tire at a tire shop. I'm always checking my tires with a dial gauge tire pressure gauge . We're a target for DOT for a lot of reasons and flat tires are one of them . It's very common for a DOT cop to break out a tire gauge and start checking the air pressure in all our tires when getting inspected because he knows if he finds one with air pressure lower than 60% of the recommended tire pressure ( We run 120 psi with H rated tires because our over weight permit calls for it) he can write a flat tire ticket. When I can I'll have a tire shop fix them with plug/ patches, especially if I know a plug might be leaking. I never use the big truck stops for fixing tires ,usually too long of a wait and they work on commission and are more interested in trying to sell you a new tire.
I use independent tire shops where I know them on a first name basis and they are tire pros
And know the kind of work I do. One of the best is Rapid Tire in Montgomery NY. These guys are great . They come out to you like a NASCAR pit crew (not quite as fast lol!). Ive had them change 4 drive tires in 18 minutes (all on the same axle). 4 guys came out with 2 air jacks and 2 air guns and literally 18 minutes. Usually you would be waiting at the big truck stops service counter that long before they told you there's going to be 8 trucks ahead of you! Lol!Last edited: Dec 30, 2018

They are great to get you out of a jam and on down the road.
I use them all the time, I have an inflation system.
I do not use them as a permanent repair. Usually by the end of the week I have my local tire shop do a proper repair. -
I use tire plugs. I’ve never had one fail on me ever.

Oh and I use these. 14” long and they are easy to use. I’ve also used them at least 10 times on my tubliss system dirt bike.
