Hello, I currently live in Philadelphia but the family is thinking about moving north of Jacksonville but still in FL. I have noticed not alot of companies I am currently looking at hire from there. If anyone has any advice on companies who will hire a veteran with no experience out of FL it would be much appreciated. I am looking to do flatbed. I have looked at TMC, PGT, Keim TS, Melton, McElroy, Maverick and Melton unless I missed something none of them hire out of FL.

I haven't heard a lot of good things about Cypress as of yet. Any Cypress drivers with info would be appreciated...

Rinaudo Enterprise - based in Jacksonville
    Decker Truck Line
    Halvor Lines

Don't rule out Cypress just on some bad post. Over the years I talked to some of their drivers at various little pit stops in GA and the East Coast and saw the same ones that had been there for years. One of them, it seemed like everywhere I went, there he was. Anyway, he really liked working for Cypress. There's disgruntled drivers in even the best companies.

Are you sure about Melton? A guy in Tampa posted he was offered a job with Melton.

I've talked to Cypress drivers, and so far I hear a lot of 50/50. I live just north of "Jack and kill," outside of Duval. Cypress is off of Tallyrand, and if you do not mind van, Southeast Freight is good from what I hear from the drivers at the airport, and they will train you if you have your learners. Pritchett (Hilliard... I think) or Lewis Scott (Yulee) if you want to drive the log trucks to Fernandina and other nearby paper mills. For driving tanker, Florida Rock hires recent CDL grads. I talk to those drivers on a regular basis since they deliver fuel to our farms.

Those are some of the Jacksonville area companies, not much for flatbeds, but to give you an idea whats around here.

I live across the river from the Georgia boarder and a lot of companies will not hire me because I live in Florida, and not Georgia even though I am 5 miles from the boarder, but as a Floridian, I do not have to worry about state taxes :D
