I did flat bed and also quit about 2 months ago after 2.5 years with them. my miles were cut in half, but I was STILL working 15-16 hours a day, 6-7 days a week.
this would be a very poor time to get into trucking if you want to pull a skateboard (most of them hauling construction material.) but as far as which flatbed companies hire students - almost ALL of them.
Flatbed companies that take beginners

Question fro you ...
A local flat bed company with 3 drivers is looking to add one more driver . He wants to meet with me Monday . He said most of his runs are 500 miles or so (Midwest) . Home weekends .
It has been a long time since I hauled flat bed . What are some good questions to ask him ?
Pay of course , but how about tarping , untarping pay etc ?
Thanx in advance !

Tarping, untarping pay, what they haul (lumber, steel, shingles, etc) how the customers are, stop pay, equipment .

I would definetly look into Maverick. I've been with them for 6 months now and am extremly pleased with the company. They hired me as a new grad with no exp. They have a really good oreintation with a great training program and one of the best pay scales for a begginer. With you living in KY you should get home with ease. I think I'm in that state every week. The only problem right now is freight is slow, but that is the economy not Maverick. I still avg. about 1800 mi. a week, which is not to bad after talking to some TMC, & Melton drivers that are not getting 1000 and still not getting home on the weekends.
notarps4me Thanks this. -
