Looking for input especially from you Open Deck Haulers out there on which you would choose and why . . . Coronado or Cascadia . . . We will be ordering new in about a month. We run a 53' Stepdeck LTL Freight from Midwest to SouthWest (AZ/VEGAS/SOUTHERN CALI) and back to Midwest. We like the DD15 / DT12 Combo you can get in the Cascadia which touts 8+ mpg . . . but so many seem to think the Coronado is made so much better than the Cascadia. However, you cannot get the DT12 Transmission in the Coronado. How many MPG are the Coronado owners getting out there with the newer models 2011-2012-2013? We're fine losing a mpg if the Coronado is made that much better than the Cascadia . . . we do very little off road driving but we still want the best workhorse available. The difference from 7 to 8 mpg at $3.60/gallon is $6,600/year . . . would that justify the Cascadia vs the Coronado FOR YOU? Driver has 25 years experience in trucking so he doesn't need an automatic . . . a 13 Speed Eaton Fuller is fine and what he's had for the last 10 years in both our International and Peterbilt. We really appreciate anyone taking the time to respond . . . we've been able to run our company more efficiently because of TruckersReport "knowledge" that has been shared. So thanks in advance!

How do you figure that the Coronado is built that much better than the Cascadia , other than the CAB they can both be identical trucks.

I just bought 3 Cascadias and they had Coronados specd the same sitting there but would not dicker on the $ for them like they did for the Cascadias ( they are still sitting there :) )

How about asking the driver that has been with you for the last decade his preference? Or is this just an exercise in bean counting? If you have a good reliable driver, he's saving you more money than you ever could by bean counting equipment.

after 10 years of service, invite him to the dealership and let him choose the truck.

Thanks Flatbed . . . We don't "figure" their better . . . it's just what we've read by other posters in various forums. That's what we're trying to find out though and that's what we thought . . . if it's just the cab . . . then we'll go with the Cascadia for the fuel savings. Congrats on the Cascadia purchases . . . can I ask if you got the DD15/DT12 Combo?

TripleSix . . . The driver is my husband and he has asked me to start this thread so we can make a better informed decision ... any knowledge on the difference in the Coronado and Cascadia is welcome.

A Coronado will have a better ride to it, better resale they are built better as the Cascadia is a mass produced company truck and as with all brands that mass produce trucks for fleets things get over looked broken from the factory that don't show up for a while but drive you nuts tring to figure out..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I would take the Coronado over the Cascadia. to many ups to it. plus better tax right off

News flash , CORONADOS are not CUSTOM built they are mass produced just like Cascadias just not in the same amounts. As for resale they are running in the same $ range for used unless specially equipped.

I dont a Coronado will be good as he goes to Cali and could possibly reload at the ports where a glider would be turned away fr not being CA Compliant.
