I've been solidly OTR flatbed for a mega flatbed company for over 18 months. I am reasonably happy. I have hazmat, tanker, TWIC. I grossed $60k last year. Would like to make more than that. I enjoy staying out 6-7 weeks at a time.

I am from WA state. No tanker experience, just the endorsement. If I was to move into a tanker job, any companies come to anyone’s mind? Just looking out at the choices. Thanks.

Indian River Transport hires in most states and is a coast to coast/border to border operation.

There’s a guy from my company who went to IRT and is very happy. That’s actually why I started wondering about tanker. Thx

    Schneider also
And i know there's a couple of others. They advertise on the trucker channel.

I think Trimac is one of them.

Man I saw a ton of good tanker jobs in the pnw.

I think quality or superior had a home daily job in Portland advertised at 85-100k driving a fuel truck.

Ok, Now you mentioned that you like to stay out "6-7 weeks at a time". So MY question is, is this timeframe something necessary? or you're just used to it?
I have 4+yrs tankers experience and I know this is gonna sound backward but I'm pretty sure that OTR "company" drivers make waaaayyy less than regional and/or local tank drivers do! I'm sure O/O's make good. But if you're a company driver, you'll do WAY better staying local or regional. I have YET to see an add for an OTR tank driver that wasn't O/O that paid much over $75k
Now, Until the last 6 mos I was running tanks (mostly doubles and Supertanker (multi-axle single tank)) and STARTED at $95k my first yr in tanks. Regional, And was home 19 out of 20 nights. And NEVER made less than $105k after that. AS A COMPANY DRIVER!!!
So my other question is, do you have an aversion to sleeping in your own bed? If you search you should be able to find a local and or regional company in YOUR AREA that would hire and train you. DON'T look at the "big boys", look at small to medium-sized companies. They "usually" are more apt to hire and train and "usually" pay better too. The deal with tanks is if your a "cowboy" you WON'T last long in tanks. So bad drivers kind of weed themselves out.
If you are just set on being gone all the time then you may want to stay where you are OR look into oilfield work. Hauling sand, water, etc,,,, If you want any advice, I can help. I want to see people succeed doing what they like. I like tanks. I also like cars. I would be miserable as a van driver. The money is there, it just seems to be backward (pay wise) than other segments of this industry. You have OTR experience, so that helps you a lot.

    Good luck!

I don't know if you're in the Seattle area but there are two teamster companies that haul gas in the Seattle area. In my opinion mine is better than the other one. That's if you want to be home every night and have 100% company paid health care and a pension. It's surprising how hard it is for us to find good drivers.
