    Hi,

I’ve got about 20 hours left of training time and today went off without a hitch; drove from the mountains in Maryland to Indiana, but the real fun part came when I was off the clock but had to help my trainer secure the load per my training; it was up pretty high, had to use a harness and the real funny part came when me needing to use the bathroom prior to securing the load came back to bite me once I got a little nervous; I was trying to indicate to my trainer that I really had to go (with a safety guy next to him) by grabbing my butt cheeks, too embarrassed of course to speak up and after getting tired of them looking around I said, “I gotta take a ****!” Lmao

Does anyone not use the harness for high up loads like this, or refuse to tarp one if safety equipment isn’t available?

    Best regards, John

I use the safety harness or whatever safety device is provided the majority of the time. If they do not offer anything I personally will still tarp the load within reason obviously...

If it's something that has been sitting outside in the winter time and has snow/ice on top of it, then no I'm not tarping it without a harness.

Another thing, if you ever go to ANY shipper who tries to pull the "You have to tarp the load but not on our property" BS, refuse it. They are trying to get out of the liability incase you do fall. They can kick rocks. It gets tarped on your property or it doesn't get tarped period!!!

Personally, I prefer not using safety equipment like harnesses or "tarping stations". If at all possible I will try to leave places that require it and just tarp somewhere down the road.

Loaner harness are never washed and have been sweated on by who knows how many people. Tarping stations that lift up the tarps are slow to use and it's more work laying out the tarps in a neat fashion that if you just rolled them out yourself.

Maybe my opinion will change when I can't safely handle a tarp, but I will probably try a different trailer by then.

Hard hats are one of my big peves for tarping tall loads. It's usually hot outside and I'd rather go without a hardhat so I can stay cooler and keep sweat out of my eyes. If I'm going to fall off that hard hat isn't worth much, IMO.

We would just have loader lift tarps up one on each end and drive out their gate , then tarp it in half the time it took to do it inside gate?
