When it's all said and done, are flatbedders W2's really more than Van?

yes. no one would do it if it wasn't. this year might be the exception though. with flat freight being slow pulling a reefer might make a little more. it hasn't been bad enough yet to make me start dealing with grocery warehouses.

I can offer this. I have 2 trucks that I run. One is a flat and one is a van. Every week the flat brings in about $1000 more revenue on 750-1000 miles less. To me the flat is the way to go unless your hauling Christmas trees out of a van 12 months out of the year.
