How often do chains, straps, binders etc get stolen off of flatbed trailers?

Contrary to what BlackW900 has told me, flatbedders gotta stop and sleep sometime......Ever wake up to find your load unsecured because somebody stole your equipment?

I would imagine it happens sometimes as there are alot of low lifes hanging around truck stops...I could be wrong, Ive been wrong once before.:biggrin_25519:

    I hate thieves.

Same goes for me, I have never had anything load securement equipment stolen off a load. I am sure it probably happens, but I try to watch where I park. I know there are guys in the t/s selling chains and tarps and stuff all the time, maybe that is where that came from...

Not sure if this on topic.
Did 3 months worth of flat bed, Not worthy to call myself a flatbedder, but my situation was........ Every job site with other drivers around. Asked me if an O/O or company driver. Couldn't figure out why they are asking. Until another driver with same company pointed out.

I had shiny new chains / binders / tarps / bungees/ New coil racks/ wood hanging off the headache rack and on the trailer bed..
    Prime target no doubt

Nothing stolen, Definitley others eye you up and can take advantage. Watch your back and lock up the equipment. I was clueless.

Flat bedding is still awesome, Great experience. Learn from the experienced pick their brains. Ears open mouth shut.
If I ever have another go around to do flatbed. It will go much smoother. Common sense these days lock up my tools of the trade and enjoy skateboarding. Crap does happen.

I have never had anything taken out on the road, the yard was where midnight supply depot was working.

I purchased a can of florescent orange spray paint and shot the binders and chains with it and the thievery stopped.

Had fuel stolen once, then all my tarps (lumber, steel, canvas). Then had an entire empty trailer stolen. They drilled out the steel kingpin lock and left it laying on the ground where the trailer used to be.

Next time I got my snap binders and 4 chains stolen.

Also got laptop,CB and power inverter stolen.

I gave up flatbedding and the thievery was one of the reasons.

Nope not yet, I keep all my chains and binders in toolboxes though, I've yet to have a truck where I kept my stuff on a headache rack.
