    Hello Everybody!

Im having a bad experience so far in CALI with my flatbeds. I run teams. Im a student of the market and Can easily tell most of the good paying frieght is down towards the Southern and northern east coast states.I know where I want to go, (IN, KY, OH, IL, AL, GA etc.) BUT Im having trouble finding good paying loads going there from the west coast. I'm contemplating going to these states and staying there for a few weeks, because breaking the trips down to get there isnt really working for me.

Thank you in advance for all your helpful advice!

How do your team drivers feel? To me, team truck is supposed to be on the move 99% of the time. Not sitting for weeks like you mentioned. How are you finding loads? Have you tried direct with shippers yet

The team is getting a lot of miles but they are not as high paying, what I meant was leaving Cali and staying in the east, south and Midwest for weeks then returning to Cali.

Rather than take a 1.50 load from Cali all the way east - have you looked at maybe going from Cali to Texas, or OK, or somewhere in the middle, where more profitable loads are, then running those? Almost always do better playing the tic-tac-toe game ...

A team truck working spot freight with that attitude will take a beating on rates. Have to be highly selective in what you haul, know where you're at what you can get, and have the ability to command what you need. Teams thinking like that would think a 500-700 mile run was beneath them when likely if they made runs like that their bread and butter they'd keep far more money after expenses than they would running typical 1,000-2,000 length of hauls. I have seen good paying "solo" runs in the 600-700 miles range where the customer hamstrung themselves and told the broker they wanted a team truck on that freight to ensure against some sloppy solo driver taking a 10 hour break before a time critical delivery. Teams running spot are not a dime a dozen and on a load like that it's time for someone paying shipping costs to pull out a checkbook and accept some dictating..... generally that would be a rate that some crybaby cheap freight broker would complain is well above market averages. But it is what it is.

How are you profitable at $1.50 a mile on a team truck? How is anyone profitable on 1.50$ a mile?

your not really profiting much at 1.50 but that is what the rates are from say CALI to the East and they are a little over $2. coming back. I can't seem to find good paying freight leaving the west coast.

Why are you hauling 1.50$ a mile if you just said your not really profiting, you are wasting time basically. Unless you formed a business to not be profitable
