I fell into a good situation and your right the gravy train does come to an end, especially since things are so slow!

The stuff I'm running (just not as much right now) the surcharge alone was paying 1.45 a mile. On 40k it's paying 4.15 a mile gross. We had to cut the surcharge to a more reasonable amount so now its only paying around .50 a mile.

    Ron,

Where was the high dollar freight? Artisan, Joy rd. in Detroit. The rates were always $3+, and I mean +++++++++. But, it is expensive to join. 3 million insurance to get in the door.

I remember when it used to be a select few carriers that GM would let haul their dies. Then things seemed to change and anyone who would haul it the cheapest would get it.

The company I ws leased on to was so old their DOT# was 3 digits...lol

I went to Jones Motors 2 months ago, been around since the 1800's. It was good for around a week. Now I am over here on the dark side.

Hay Chev, I didnt go to Roehls school. I went to a commercial drivers school 5 mi from the house. I live 10 mis from Poughkeepsie, but you have to be with them 6 mos before you can request dedicated or regional. I'm hoping I live in a good area for this.

Most haz doesn't pay that well. I've seen a lot of haz loads on the boards that were the same price as FAK...... cheap and heavy.

Keep in mind that when you have niche freight you can do that. There is not enough niche freight for every one to go around.

I've talked to guys that were saying the same thing when I was leased to Landstar. I do not know how they managed to stay afloat.... sit for a week or longer ...... haul one load of $3 and then sit and wait on their next $3 load. I would take $1.75 to $2.75 and be down the road with a pay check while they were still sitting around. When you sit that much pretty soon your $3 a mile becomes $1.50 or less when you start paying the bills that never stop even when you decide to wait out the market.

I hate cheap freight the same as every body else, but there has to be a point to where you are loosing money to just sit.

Good point brick. Sometimes it is better to get in a better freight area for a higher paying load.
