Hey Folks, I am currently in school at the moment, have about 4.5 months left, im here in Philadelphia Pa. and i am looking for a flat bedding job somewhere, anywhere really, i have posted somthing like this, but the responses were good except for the fact that i am only 21 :biggrin_25513:
and most flat bed comp's only hire at 23 + so, does anyone no of a good company that hires 21 year olds, anything would be great, wish i was 23 to get in with TMC, but when i do turn 23 im concidering heading there cause ill be able to make SOME more money and etc.
    so thanks in advance

Your best option being 21 .... find a small ma and pa company .... get the experience in and then when you turn 23 you will have alot of options open to you

I to will be entering the interesting world of flatbeds... I've been running vans and reefers since starting out last year. I'm somewhat familiar with cargo securement from running cargo in the offshore oilfield ( at least with a truck you don't have to worry about waves).

Being 53, I don't have to worry about the age restrictions that younger drivers so, but the learning curve is going to be just as steep. Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated!

Everyone likes something different, and you're right there is an upside and a downside to curtain vans. One of the biggest up sides for many is that they don't have to tarp anymore. On the other hand, technically you have to tarp EVERY load, meaning opening and closing the curtains all the time. Depending on your haul this could be a real pain, or a huge time advantage not to mention back saver for things like ltl freight. Another downside is that they weigh more than a flatbed which means you can haul less freight......sometimes an issue. Another downside to me is that they limit you on the type of freight you can haul, obviously over dimensional freight doesn't work as you can only hang out the back of your trailer and not the front or sides. The list goes on, but you get the idea.
