In your area I would try to find some Acme driver who wanted a swamper. They haul a lot around LA & TX. Lot of short and medium length runs. You could get a lot of securement training in not too long. Also be picking up at lot of different shippers and all kinds of delivery points.

Here's a idea. Just go down to the nearest outfit that loads flatbeds and walk right up to ANY driver and say..........Hay do mind if I help you tarp that load. :biggrin_2559: In no time you'll be a pro on folding and securing tarps over a load.

It sounds like you have some good leads here from others. I would also just add that there's no substitute to learning directly from a driver who has hauled the same load before. Since I've been flatbedding I always watch what other drivers do, I look at how loads are secured on other trucks in the truckstop.

It really is about 99% good common sense, but you can pick up a lot of tricks that will make your life easier off of other drivers. I've found most of the old flatbedder's are more than willing to share what they know if you approach them with respect and ask for help or advice.
