Well I had every intention of going with TMC when I retire from the Navy, but with all the chages latley I have decided not to go with them. What are some other flatbed or car hauler companies that will hire with no experience. I grew up in a truck(dry/refer) and I want to do something diffrent. Will be living in NC for a few months after retireing, then plan on moving to FL(not definate).
Flat's for a newby

Hello mDub,

Hope this helps -
I just wanted to advise you to explore carefully about flatbeds and most certainly flatbeds and Florida.
I have driven flatbed all over this country and most of the time I had to deadhead out of Fl. to get a load.
I got stuck in Southern Fl. two times over a weekend. I quit taking any loads to Southern Fl.
The rules have changes concerning flatbeds and loading. A person must be up todate on the rules. I see so many flatbeds today that actually have unsecured loads. This may work ok if scales and DOT officers are not up todate but an accident, even if not a fault, can change everything. Always be careful of rolled steel and double stacked rolled roofing.
Also so you will know, picking up loads that have been in the mud, or outside, tarping on a 500 mile run, so they can be placed outside again, will anger the most tempered soul. I went to a stepdeck and loved it. Most flatbed and car hauling companies want drivers with OTR experience. I hauled cars for Waggoners(Ok.) and DAS(Dallas) for over 3 years. The pay was great with DAS and pretty good with Waggoners but the down turn in the economy is bad for the auto industry and therefor car haulers. DAS requires 1 year OTR for sure. They are mainly a team company and the pay can be in the 60 to 80,000 dollar range. This of course requires being a trainer.
You stated no experience. Is this in flatbed or OTR period? You are in the Navy so I guess you do not have a CDL yet?

for flatbed, check CT Transportation. they hire students (I guess they're still hiring,) and have terminals in Jacksonville and Apollo Beach, and several other Comcar terminals in FL. you won't haul cars without experience.
