Hello currently have a 97 fld120 daycab and wanting to do some upgrades inside and outside the cab but I've found that there are many more things for the classic than for the fld. But from what my mechanic told me that the fld and classic have the same cab just different hoods. So my question is are parts interchangeable between the classic cab and fld cab like the visor?

Thank you for all replies in advance and thank you for reading. Also if this is posted in the wrong place I apologize.

I would think so, but outside shape doesn't guarantee interior interchangeability.

Mack CH's are one example. We have them with both interior styles and they are vastly different.

Im reluctant to commit and say it's interchangeable.

In "My" FLD120 that I talked about previously in these forums the outside of the body was a standard with the biggest sleeper available then before the new XL Series that came out right around 1998, I was introduced to one in Omaha and it made quite an impression on me. Basing what I recall of Freighliner's demonstration XL and set up there, I would imagine body parts are very little in interchangeability. Now handle rails and fuel tank skirts and so forth might be...

I tell you what... any time you can get a truck that exceeds space and volume compared to a FLD 120, buy it. It's awesome. The bigger the studio the better.

I have driven just about all the rigs there are to drive except for most of the European ones here in America and have loved them all. But for habitat and ability to endure brutal winters with heat it's either a FLD 120 or a CH Series Mack sleeper cab. With that said, the Century in the 2001 series did very well for us too. For us that represented the very best of Freightliner as far as our Husband wife team demands and needs for that year. You have to really love each other to be in that space for several months at a time plus 700 pounds of food, fluids and necessary clothing etc.

i'm pretty sure the classic and fld's are identical except for the hood. And if you have a fld with a set forward axle, then even the hoods are interchangeable.

i think freightliner even refers to the classic as a FLD 132?

Well from all that I could gather it seems like a lot of the parts are the same. Which makes sense because it would be more cost effective for most of the parts to be interchangeable. The main things that I was wanting to do to my truck was a lower visor than my stock fiberglass one and a nice wood floor. In the worst case I might have to modify things to make them fit but that shouldn't be to big of a deal.

Thanks everyone for the great responses.

Apologies to everyone. Occasionally I speak up about something and it's not going to side track the topic I hope.

The only diff is the hoods which the early FLD style had special cowl parts between the 120 and 112 on the sides to go with that weird hood/fenders and set back axle.

Other than that the cabs are identical. But an aftermarket SS visor won't fit the plastic visor brackets. Gonna need to mod 'em or make new ones.

    jayk anderson Thanks this.
