The real money is in tattoo parlors and vape shops. Just look around.

I've always thought the key to getting rich is tattoo parlors now and tattoo removal in 5 years. Of course, that 5 years has just about passed.

Diversify. I run one truck and have some real estate. One large deal I have a like minded partner in that one only project. But I live off the one truck. I will retire off the property.

That was my plan, but he wouldn't sell me 'one truck'... whole or none. The Pete I wanted, he's still rolling around in; pulling Jersey Barriers for UPI in Marengo. If my kids have interest I may still go that route. Just want Old Iron here, tho. @wore out .. got anything for sale?!? ;)

Real Estate, rentals. Let someone else pay the mortgage.
jamespmack mentioned. The truck is to live off, and help pay the rentals mortgage quicker. Then the rentals will be my retirement income.

Good income producing real estate should generate between 10 and 16% annually, counting rent, appreciation and tax deferring income through depreciation. Some gigs, like mobile home parks, are north of 25%. Of course, that comes with headaches....

To get over 10% in return on assets in trucking you have to use a lot of leverage, which increases the chance of going bust in a bust ("gambler's ruin" is the economists term for that). On average you'll do GREAT, in reality, you go bankrupt more than half the time.

Stocks are boring, but the US stock market averages over 10% year in, year out. Ups and downs, for sure, but as close to a sure thing as real estate in the long run. Without the renters... ;)

We did some campaigning against Battlefield Development a time or two. I was not much effective then in those days but I had the hat in the ring a time or two. Referring to Civil War Battlefields.

Fighting 'fracking' in Ohio reminds me of those days...I'm not a 'spring chicken' myself, haha!

The last really serious problem was in Manassas VA, the idea that it would be converted into a Disney world of sorts caused so many predators to pour money into that poor county. Built it up around the Battlefield in a hurry. I think it finally got stopped. And they were worse off for it.

More real wealth has been created in RE than trucking. Although RE is cyclical, it's usually not as volotile as logistics.

I remember hearing about that. I could have gotten a job hauling for Fishburn in Marengo when the tank job thing went bust (more/less) but... nope. What I don't see / don't know / dont't read, won't hurt me. Same with the windmill adventure here. The amish didn't get paid as they expected. Sad but true.
