Local drivers – home nightly. Regional drivers may be out for 1 – 3 days. OTR work is also available with our OTR drivers generally out a maximum of 14 days. We offer commensurate experience pay, late model assigned equipment, per diem, bonuses, training & cross-training programs with an aggressively competitive pay scale.
Qualified drivers must meet the following requirements:
    • Be at least 23 years of age
    • Be authorized to work in the United States
    • Currently hold both tanker & hazardous material endorsements
    • TWIC card will be required
    • Minimum 1 year recent verifiable tractor-trailer experience or have a graduate certificate from a McKenzie Tank Lines approved CDL school.

He doesn't care just wants to drive and get decent home time but with him being in Florida he said his options were somewhat limited I believe.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Plenty of options; how old is he?
I'll give you a list of companies; some hire at 21 or 22 or 23.

Tell him to look at accessorial pays also. With all my experience I was only making .36 cpm, but with accessorial pays (detention, layover, etc.) was pulling in $65K.
Here's some that will hire him and tell him to apply online and ignore any "experience required" because they all hire new grads with no experience.
Danny Herman Trucking - dry van & good freight lanes and NO northeast or NYC.
    Abilene Motor Express
Old Dominion Freight Line - dry van pulling doubles
    Freymiller - reefers
FFE (Frozen Food Express) - reefers
    Milan Express - dry van
Schuster - nations largest ice cream hauler
Britton Transport - 53′ dry vans, reefers, flatbeds and stepdecks
    Magnum Ltd. - reefers
    Paul Transportation - flatbed
    Melton Truck Lines - flatbed
    Navajo Express - reefers
    J&R Schugel - reefers
Probably won't hear about any of these in CDL school, but they all hire new cdl grads. Apply to as many as you want.

If they aren't in Florida can he still get home time. I thought OTR you had to live in the area?

The company can be anywhere; hometime is based on company policy. He may have to find a safe place to park the truck if there's no terminal in Jacksonville.
Hometime may be easier with tankers because Jacksonville has plenty of chemical plants.
Other type companies usually tell the driver, you get "X" number of days off at home for each "X" number of days you're on the road.

Cypress Truck Lines and Rinaudo Enterprise have Jacksonville terminals. They're both flatbed.
There's some more local stuff such as Sysco or Comcar.

Here's some more that hire new cdl grads:
Trimac Transportation - good outfit and after 24 mos. can join their Elite Fleet and make over $100K if you're motivated and run hard.
CTL Transportation one new grad posted he got on local & home every day in Jacksonville & they also have OTR.
    Tidewater Transit
    Schneider Bulk
    SVTN
    Superior-Carriers
    McKenzie Tank Lines

So, he has many, many options out of Florida.
