Bro, don’t do CDL training at an employer. They charge way more than CDL schools or community colleges. They also usually get some kind of government grant so they have tons of new students weekly and kick most of them out once your warm body has been there long enough to get funding credit. The ones who don’t get grants will charge you $10,000 or more plus hotel expenses, and blah blah if you don’t stay for a year.
A community college can get you a CDL in 2 months for $1200 if you’re a resident of the state. Independent CDL schools usually charge around $5000. Then you have options and don’t owe any company diddly. Plus there’s free job training grants too as someone mentioned.
(Florida)Thinking about getting a CDL can I get a local home everyday route?

Food service is probably the only local starter gig that pays more than OTR but I have seen enough drivers out injured or limping around the yard sporting all manner of arm and knee braces during my short time at Sysco. -

Raider Express doesn't charge for their school the last I knew. There's a driver on here that works for them and has a lot of good things to say about them. I wouldn't trust some companies out there but Raider doesn't have the contract.
Roehl is one I've read many times not to trust. -
They also have an incentive to let you come to the school even if they have no intention of using you for their company which is why you see A LOT of reviews of people being randomly kicked out after 2 weeks for no reason. By then that warm body counts as a student and the government check is cut.
Just because someone drives for the company doesn’t mean they know much about the Cdl division of it. The thing about reviews is to not focus on one particular review, but a trend in them. If there’s a few reviews saying the mustard on the hot dog is awful, it’s likely accurate. -
Local you’re home but I would imagine that you must feel like you are always at work
Up early and home late but most likely weekends off
Personally I would hate that but how I run OTR isn’t like most
I’m not married to my job and take several weeks off at a time when I go home
OTR or Local you just need to find that right balance and some may need or prefer one over the other for many reasons -
