I live in Miami,FL. I know LANDSPAN in Lakeland,FL hires in the Miami/ Ft.Lauderdale area. The catch to that is u gotta run 3 to 4 weeks before they send u home. Miami/ Ft.Lauderale are consumer cities and not manufactoring cities. Compamies have freight coming in but nothing coming out...

Also, Davis Transport in Lakeland, FL hires in Miami/ Ft.Lauderdale. The catch with them is you can't take truck and trailer home. You gotta park truck at yard in Lakeland and drive your personal vehicle home..

Link America has in Miami / Ft. lauderdale as well..

Heartland Express hires in Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale too..

Depending on the needs, Calex does hire out of the Lake Worth area. Johnboy lives down there and works for them. Heartland has a lot of freight going down to S. Florida from my understanding. There are lots of smaller companies that hire out of S. Florida. Finally, I think Benny Whitehead may hire out of S. Florida.

Heyl may not hire in Miami but most of the floral companies like Armellini and Florida Beauty Flora and Transportation does. CRST and Werner do as well.

Interesting reading here I hope you guys keep it going, I've been reading along and was surprised by a few things I read. Floridagirl I was surprised to see your hubby left JBS, I thought you guys were happy there and loved the equipment? Also somone stated that Miami was a consumer city and not a manufacturing one which isn't true, plenty of things are made in and around Miami including boats, cleaning supplies, frozen food items and cardboard plants. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton but you get the point. For you guys looking to run otr out of Miami area you really need to get out from behind the computer and drive around some industrial areas and talk to some of the drivers you see leaving the areas. Just my two cents not trying to insult anyone. Hope you guys find something and by all means stay away from any CCC company and Indian River and Cypress.

Funny, I spent 15 yrs OTR while living in Clearwater. 9 times out of 10 I would DH into Ga to pick up a load. Freight sucks coming out of Florida, unless of course it's produce season.

Florida is a consumption state, just because they do have some things they produce, it doesn't change that fact. They consume FAR more than they produce.

There are loads that pay, you just have to know the right people. I'd rather sit for a load that pays well than run for cheap. If I must run for cheap in order to get a better load, i'd make it perfectly clear to that broker that you are doing him a favor and ask to have a better load that waiting for you as soon as you deliver.

Drive for Knight Transportation out of Lakeland. Will have been here a year come May. no complaints. It's non forced dispatch so they tend to keep you where you feel comfortable.. I run mostly east coast, and i'm trying to get into Canada just to see what it's like up there. Pay scale isn't amazing but it works for me, and my truck does 66mph.. I'm sure that's the only reason i haven't left yet.
