i've personally never really cared for flying j. this economy is in such bad shape that many corporations are having to cut back just to stay alive. I beleive that this is a sign of worser things to come.
Flying J Restaurants will no longer be open 24 hours.

YAY! I quit them years ago anyway when they started the fake egg thing. Could'nt throw em at the cook, might kill him they were so hard. They have become so dirty anyway. I thinks someday a disease from dirty food will start eating people from the inside out and it will be a Pandemic they can't stop.

Personally I hope they all close their doors. They are over priced, crappy food, nasty showers. The only Flying J that I have stopped in that was half way decent was in Des Moines.
-
The new one in Limon, CO has great showers.

One of the main reasons the food is so expensive is because so many drivers have their own food and eat it in their truck. Just maintaining the parking lot is expensive nevermind the upkeep of the building. If I owned a truck stop I'd probably just bulldoze it, make a larger parking lot, and then charge people to park there

My companies fuel contract is with Fly J so I have to stop at them to fuel, and of course take advantage of the shower coupons. I occasionally eat at these places, but am so tired of seeing the same things on the buffet and the prices on the menu are just too much to pay for what you get. I have to say though that I do prefer them to eatting burgers and fries from any of the national fast food chains you see at other stops, or Subway sandwiches.
I've started eatting a lot more in my truck, but even so, there are times you just don't have the time or desire to go thru all that trouble.
What I would really like to see the J's and other truck stop chains get into is carrying grocery items for us to re-stock our fridge's in the trucks. -
One of the main reasons I would eat at a TS from time to time, was because I just wanted to get out of the truck once in a while..

Agreed. Sometimes those walls start closing in on you pretty quick. Then, I go in, and order off the menu, as I rarely if ever eat a buffet (too many unwashed hands way too close to the food), and I'm quickly reminded of why I don't normally eat in truck stops.
For example, the Hook in Barstow, CA, has many places within walking distance right nearby. There's a japanese place, a Panda express, on several other places.
Oh, and whan I saw this thread on the first page, all I saw was "FLying J restaurants will no longer...." and I was hoping it said "Flying J Restaurants will no longer serve food that will give you gas for two days, or the screaming squibblies." I'm a little dissapointed, honestly. -
From my observations, the Flying J in Clear Brook, VA (Winchester) I 81, Exit 323 has been shutting their Country Market restuarant for a few months now from 11 pm to 6 am. They don't bring out the buffet food to the steam tables until just before 7 pm.
I asked about this at the other Flying J, I frequent in Ruther Glen / Carmel Church, VA; I-95 Exit 104. I was told that they have enough business so they will stay open with the Country Market, 24/7; however, the buffet will be only open from around 7 am to 9:30 pm or so.
