Nope, they are not. They are being run out of business because no one wants to go there and spend more than they would elsewhere. A place charges more, they go out of business unless they have a compelling reason to attract customers. Every mom and pop I went to was nasty lots, nasty, broken bathrooms, no showers, etc. Sure they may offer a free cup of coffee, but I'd rather be able to take a dump and not have a hole the size of a soccer ball looking outside...

Partially that, but by far is getting the advertising paid for to even get the town, county, whoever to zone it so it can be made into truck parking. Loves tried to put a truck stop in a town 15 minutes from here, but even they could not overcome the "evil truckers" nimby crowd.

Not from what I've seen. A few of the truck stops along the Eastern Seaboard have either "sold out" to the flying hook or just shut down outright.

I'm sure the last thing the people inside want to do is go out in the parking lot at night to bang on doors to tell the idiots blocking the aisles to move.

I stopped at the Lamar, PA flying J yesterday to take my 30 break. About 8 am. Carter Express was parked smack dab in the middle of the exit lane where you need to make that right turn around the jersey barriers to get out. Right in front of an almost empty front row. Nobody could get around him. He was still there at 9 when I left with closed curtains. If you're gonna park like a moron, set your alarm and move the truck when the sun up crowd rolls out. Elogs won't trip in the time it takes to roll into a spot.

That's when these places need to call the tow trucks and have them removed.
If the no parking areas were enforced this nonsense would drop rapidly....

My neighbor/ freind bought 100+ acres just off exit 18 on I-64 here in WV. Be couple restaurants and a motel as well as his auto repair business there. Been talking to him about just that, a parking area for drivers. 6-8 acres would be big help. Also trying to get him to add a service bay for any occasional driver that may want to get away from the mainstream TS routine. Owning his own truck at one time he is not fresh out of the gate.

Only problem with that is mom and pops dont make money on fuel... its the food and drinks that keep them in business

All you people whining about creative parkers. I love them guys. I don't usually shut down early and I'd never get a real spot if it wasn't for those guys. :|

Parking isn't all that bad where I usually run and I've only parked creatively 2 times at a truck stop but the reality is that there simply isn't enough parking. The notion that if everyone did proper trip planning there would magically be enough parking is ridiculous.

But yeah, the guys who park creatively and leave a spot for me as well as the ones who shutdown in the early afternoon and are pulling out when I'm shutting down make my life easier.
