So you want your wife to run a log book to run to the grocery store?:biggrin_25526: Driving her mini van. Then log the trip to the kids soccer game? Across town. Sounds like a grand plan, you should call your congressman and make it happen.

Back about 05 or 06 a friend and I were discussing EOBRs. I told him that they were coming one day ready or not.
    No way around it.

He was certain that my eyes were brown.

I'm gonna have to call him and ask him if he still thinks I'm full of it.

I've heard it for years, and a lot of folks have said "one day" they are coming. Looks like it's now that time.

Having an EOBR for all vehicles regardless is a mite extreme.

But you got to admit that there is a point to it. Trucking is one of the most highly regulated industries thru the interference of the gooberment.

As a cop you are allowed to carry a gun and make life or death situation decisions. How about cops have an EOBR to track their hours? I mean after all they put in thousands of miles per yr behind the wheel the same as truckers.
They become fatigued too and could make a poor decision resulting in some poor slub getting shot that may or may not be innocent.

After a while common sense has to be prevail and allowing uncle F-er to 100% track a certain segment of society at some point begins to violate USofA constitutional rights.

I just sent him an email, I'm guessing that his memory won't remember it how I do.

We are mandated to how many hours we work consecutive, where I am. We have to have a set amount of rest or break between shifts. We also are not on the highway the entire time driving. Lot of desk sitting when doing paperwork. We are not like fireman who work 24 on then 24 off.

Well, i know here in my state cops work double, tripple shifts to get the ot. I've bin on some construction jobs when a cop will come in of his regular shift to do traffic then go right back onto his patrol.

I appreciate the input Dieselbear it, without doubt, points in the right direction. I wasn't aware of the already there boxes. I wonder if they will just update the firmware so to speak so that it tracks HOS too, or if we'll be required to purchase and install a second one that does THAT job alone. Of course this is all speculation, as its not instituted yet....although I doubt that it will fail.

I've been saying it for years, guess I can type it too.....
    "Welcome to the USSA"

We're giving up freedoms faster and faster, things aren't what they used to be. In and out of trucking, the America I was born in was a totally different beast than it is today. It doesn't look good going forward either.
