Hi guys,
We have I
Been in business a year and just passed our new entrant audit. The day after I got a letter from the fmcsa saying they are investigating our authority due to insurance which expires in a month from now. We are just waiting to renew our insurance and are not cancelling anything. Has anyone received something like this before?

Sounds like maybe your insurance company notified them that they were not renewing your policy and just haven't told you yet. Better check with your ins agent pronto...
MercuryLine and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

I'd call 'em up and have them explain it to you first hand...

Some insurance companies are moving out of the trucking insurance market. If you are with one of those companies you need to find out quickly and get a new policy ready to go before you expire.

There is nothing to worry about, FMCSA sends this kind of letter to everyone who's insurance is expiring.
They wouldn't send it only if your insurance company did not put an expiration date when filing.
Basically if you go to Safer and check your insurance, if it shows Start and End date, you will get a mail.
If your policy only shows Start and no End dates, then you would not get anythingPirateBox, MercuryLine, magoo68 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Every policy I’ve had, always includes an extra 30 days paid, in escrow, to avoid cancellation, or notifications to the Fmcsa, should I be late on a payment. Essentially giving Me a 30 day grace period, if needed. Never got such a letter, myself. I think Dune-T had the correct answer in your case.

Thank you guys! The insurance agent said that this letter is sent out to anyone who has insurance expiring in 30 days and it basically means that if you don't get insurance by the expiration date, the authority will become inactive. Phew!!!
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I hate those Billy Badarse letters like that.
It’s funny how the letter can’t just say that “this is a reminder that your insurance will expire soon and if it is not renewed your authority will no longer be active”
Instead they send a confusing letter that sounds like you did something wrong and are under investigation and now the feds are gonna show up and audit you.bzinger, stuckinthemud, xsetra and 2 others Thank this.
