FMCSA revokes 4 more ELDs to list of revoked devices

    The problem with so many of these ELDs is they are designed to be plugged to the J-Buss port... That creates a data bottleneck and causes all sorts of issues. We had a mechanic that was a genius with electrical and figgured out the problem and wired them in differently. But it did require cutting factory harness and wiring in another data port. This way it didnt create the data bottleneck and almost all of our issues went away. We even had lead technicians from Volvo and Freightliner dealers coming to our shop to see how he was fixing the problems.

    What I've found is even when everything is ok, it's possible there is a glitch, like changes not being saved, or the dreaded other trucks with other drivers who don't need to log generating edits that must be disapproved to clear, and that is not always straightforward, either.

    We had Peoplenet a long time ago, long prior to this mandate, we don't miss them, and I've have only gotten insight from friends who have or had them, and they have nothing good to say about them. EROAD was a disappointment, and Keep Trucking, now Motive, has about convinced me to hang it up, but I make it work. Not the camera, though.

    Just curious, what’s the issue with Big Road? I know it requires a download onto a smartphone. My last employer used Big Road, really wasn’t all that problematic, considering they also based payroll 100% off of what Big Road indicated what hours you were ‘on duty’ or ‘driving’.
