Now if they want to make that law to include four wheelers, I'm game. Does driving a big rig pose that much greater risk to the general population when talking on the phone than a person driving a four wheeler? I mean lets be honest, who's the one with the skills and training to be a PROFESSIONAL DRIVER? I'd put my money on the truckers any day before the four wheelers on who to trust driving and talking on a hands free phone. Besides most professional truckers won't talk on the phone while driving anyway.
Next question is how are they going to enforce this, assuming every driver (professional or otherwise) is barred from using any hand held phone while driving now? In CA it hasn't worked passing a law forbidding anyone using a hand held device while driving, I still see a lot of people with their hand up to their ear. This is just another law to pass that LE will be impotent to enforce, but it could generate some new revenue for the government. This is what I believe its real intent is. Safety takes a backseat.....it's the money honey. They can collect much more money, per incident, from truck drivers than four wheelers. If it's all about highway safety, why not ban ALL drivers of motor vehicles from talking on the phone while driving, period? -
I think the safest thing to do would be to ban cell phones altogether... and driving... and going outside.
Everyone just needs to stay at home in their closet with a pillow over their head. Let the government bring you your food on a green plastic tray.Scarecrow03, Lilbit, 07-379Pete and 2 others Thank this. -
Sad part is I voted for Republican Ray LaHood many years ago.
I quickly found him to be a risk to the future of most americans and never voted for him again.
Problem is that many party voters never saw the light. -
No worries. I use a headset. I agree though, if it's for commercial transportation, it should also be for 4 wheelers too.
-
I use a headset as well. This week I have been using the voice command option to get used to not dialing. After all, you cannot even use the keypad to hit a speed dial after this fool's idea.
-
Hmmmm... looks like I better learn how to work that feature myself.

He's a RINO. He's the one who proposed a tax on miles driven, rather than a gas tax. He's no republican. I read he couldn't get elected as a democrat and switched sides for this purpose......to get elected. We are, after all, talking about Illinois. Is there any politician in that state that can't be bought for a price? And the fact that he has ties with Rahm should have been enough.

He was worse when he was what you guys think is a true conservative.
He has been going downhill bad for the last 10 years of Washington and the loss of his roots.
As far as politics, this state has no party separation on the crooks.TruckrsWife Thanks this. -
Anyone who wants to tax us for the miles we drive is not what I consider a conservative. This mindset is liberal all the way.
